New Manager?

Recommended Posts

I thought that the club statement in relation to the characteristics sought and process being followed was quite clear and informative.

I note that the Hastings management team have jumped ship having done very well on a tight budget against a tough backdrop. I wonder whether we might be seeing Elphick and Meeney in North London or whether they're keen to stay close to their South Coast roots?

His farewell message on the Met Police page is interesting: "I can proudly look at my time with the Met, steering us to two step 3 play offs in 3 completed seasons, one of which we won but were unable to take our place at step 2 due to FA restructuring. In that time, we also won two Surrey senior cups along with a first round of the FA Cup, sometimes a game-changer for clubs at non-league level. ... I feel the club is in the best shape possible, I would not have left it any other way but taking everything into account our belief is we’ve taken it as far as we can.The club will always have a special place but it’s time for us to look for a different challenge in football."

I take from that that he believes he can achieve more than he did at Met Police at ETFC.

Very good appointment for Enfield. At Chesham we came up against Gav's teams for a few years now and he always has a very competitive side on what is not considered to be a huge amount of resources @ Met Police and competing against Isthmian sides local to them with much less travelling (multiple trips to Devon & Cornwall in previous Southern Prem South seasons).

Met also used to have an experienced core mixed in with young talented players from either their Academy/U23 setup or released from pro clubs in the UK or abroad looking to kickstart their careers again

Very pleased with this appointment.   Would be interested to hear how Met Police fans felt and what they thought of him during his time there.

Sounds positive.

I'm not a Met Police fan but a Slough Town fan. When Andy Leese was made manager for Enfield I wrote on this forum that I thought Andy would do well for you,as his Chesham team regularly beat Slough in derby matches and the players he brought together there did seem to contain a talented group of players with a few star performers. It amazed me when Enfield fans said Andy played long ball stuff and some of the football was dire,as that wasn't like the side I witnessed in Leese's Chesham. I digress.

I often read the Enfield forum and like to keep up with the news from your club. Always think back to Enfield's glory days in the Conference and thus I have a fondness for Enfield. Anyway when I saw Gavin McPherson was leaving Met Police FC I straight away thought could he be on the way to you lot. Then yesterday I saw it was happening.

I think the appointment is a good one. I've seen quite a few Met Police matches with him in charge, and have also watched Slough play them. too. His teams are never easy to beat. I wouldn't say he's flamboyant and plays an exciting brand of football but he does make shrewd signings and gets a togetherness in his teams. They are hard working sides with hints of panache but as he's not used to splashing the cash he gets the most out of his players. I would say he's a steady Eddie, efficient and no one's fool but definitely a dark horse because he turns his teams into winners. Hope this info helps.

The one thing I recommend him doing first though, before any signings, is to get rid of that silly haircut ! ha ha ha ! It looks like he's got a wig on ! 🤣

Thanks for this @3spirit, good to hear from someone who's seen some of his games in charge and can comment first hand on his style and values.   He spoke very well during his first interview, and values are so important in what a manager wants out of his teams.   I love the fact you say that he gets the most out of his players.   That was my big question about many of the players we saw recently.   Mo's record obviously spoke for itself, but I did wonder how many of our team were playing at a very high percentage week in week out.   Unfortunately I don't think we played well enough either individually or as a team, and definitely not against the top teams.

Well let's see what the off season brings.
