Like father, like son?

Recommended Posts

My mother was born in Leyton so I have a preference for a Millwall v Leyton Orient fixture.

On 20th February 2007, Millwall lost 2-5 at home to Leyton Orient in League One. A certain Gary Alexander opened the scoring after 5 minutes and was influential throughout the match so it was not surprising that at the end of the season, Millwall got their cheque book out.

On 24th May 2009 in the League One play-off final, Gary Alexander scored what has been described as, "Easily the best goal scored at Wembley". Millwall had gone 0-2 down to Scunthorpe United before Gary Alexnader made it 2-2 after 39 minutes with this goal :-

But Scunthorpe United emerged as winners 3-2 and were promoted to the Championship.

Some comments on this goal :-

"I'm a Scunthorpe United fan and was at that game, even I clapped it. A very, very good goal."

"Easily the best goal scored at Wembley but it will never get the respect it deserves because it wasn't scored by a Premier League player. Simple as that."

and finally

"Still hurts that we lost that day ... but what a goal! I hope that his son George makes it for The Lions."
