v Taunton (away)

Recommended Posts

Beaten by an injury time goal and Welling and Weymouth both won.

This game of ours can be very cruel sometimes.

No way did Taunton deserve their winner yesterday.

To me, Taunton were playing the last 15 minutes of the match being very happy with a point.

I don't think even they could fully believe their good fortune in grabbing an injury time winner.

There seems a lot of doom and gloom after this result.

Scotty seemed really down in his interview, and a couple of senior players even said "sorry" to us fans after the final whistle.

Sorry ?

In my eyes at least there was nothing to be sorry for.

Yes as a supporter it was gutting to lose like that, but it must have been even harder for our players to come off that pitch knackered at the final whistle having had a well deserved point snatched away from them  in such a fashion.

The comments on here from fellow fans also seem rather downbeat.

Yes it was a longer journey home yesterday than it would have been if we had brought a point back with us, but I don't feel so down as everyone else appears to be.

Perhaps it's just me, but I just would like to put some facts on here.

Every other team below us would swap places with us in a heartbeat.

Our destiny is in our own hands.

One thing I think I can say is that we have players playing up front for us who can score goals.

We haven't always had that.

No disrespect meant to Ben Harris at all, but when we played 4-5-1 so many times with Ben up front on his own we weren't going to score many goals, were we ?

If you can score goals you always have a much greater chance of winning a game.

A win on Saturday would put us up to 50 points.

That is certainly achievable.

If we get to 50 points then, according to my calculations ( which I hope are correct ! ) ...........................

for Cheshunt to get to 51 points they would have to get 11 points from the 15 available to them.

Dulwich would have to get 8 points from 12.

Hungerford would have to  get 15 from a possible 18 to reach 51 points.

Weymouth would have to win all their 4 remaining matches to get to 51 points, and Concord would have to get 20 points from a possible 24.

And these figures discount us getting anything from our other 2 remaining games.

Now I'm not saying that any of these clubs can't achieve these targets, but Rebel fans, whose position would you rather be in ?

I know my answer.

Keep the faith.

In reply to some of the comments…

I can’t pretend to be happy when I wasn’t. The interview was 10 minutes after the final whistle and at the moment in time I felt flat. We’ve had two results in the past 3 games where we’ve had 3 points snatched from us and sometimes that’s difficult to take.

This morning however, it was a new day. I’ve woken up feeling optimistic and always will be while we are in the fight we are in. Some people might argue, or say that I have to remain positive at all times, especially in front of the camera where people can watch it back, but sometimes emotion is good fuel.

After yesterdays game, I have never seen a changing room so deflated, but to me that’s a good thing because it shows how much losing a point hurts.

We are lucky to have the group that we do and I wouldn’t change any of them which hopefully speaks volumes about the togetherness we have.
