Gary Horgans post match interview refreshingly honest   Well beaten by a better side on the day  Slough on top from KO till final whistle Does mention that we had somethimg to play for  There was criticism on their social media that the 1300 KO was unfair to them!!  They had the same notice we did so dont understand that.

They mentioned that playing 17 games in 55 days caught up with them probably not helped by a 1pm ko.

Those 2 hours extra rest could have made all the difference 😵

Like I said in my interview, it was a day that we could have only dreamt of!

That’s by far and away the most complete performance I’ve been involved in for a very long time. The lads were superb, along with you guys in support!

Given ourselves a great chance now but it’s not over yet. Hopefully we can get a positive result in Taunton and see where we are at thereafter.

Scotty!

I'm very disappointed that nobody pointed out my deliberate mistake in my previous post.

( Deliberate ?  Believe that and you'll believe anything ! )

I've just realised that the commentator for that infamous England v Argentina World Cup match was Barry Davies not John Motson.

I always preferred Barry Davies to John Motson anyway !

Spoke to Mick Chatterton yesterday at the Maidenhead v Torquay match (he was also at our Chippenham game) and he said he was hoping George wouldn't get a fifth because he once scored 5 in one game for us! I'm not certain but I think it was all 5 goals in a 5-0 win, but can't remember the opposition (Eastbourne maybe?).

It was on his debut in a 5-2 home win against Harlow in September 1972 (not a match I would have seen!):-

I was there and I think all his goals were scored in the second half. I seem to recall that in the usual Slough fashion everyone was despondent at half time and some were already contemplating relegation.

OK I'll admit to having exaggerated that last point but when there were only 30 league games and at least one other comparably strong team involved (Walton for a while and Dagenham all the time) the loss of any points, particularly at home, was liable to cause upset.
