v Hemel Hempstead Town (away)

Recommended Posts

When their striker put the ball down on the spot it reminded me of Bath at home all over again… and I feared the worst! Cannot underestimate a point in those circumstances, away from home with 10 men for 38 minutes.

Conceding after 70 minutes for example, and guaranteeing that we would get a draw would be easier to stomach, it’s just the fact it was so late on.

But, a point could be a valuable one, so let’s hope so. For those that went would’ve seen a good team performance in the first half and then because of consequence we weren’t able to play the way in which we would have liked second half.

Chippenham are on fire, yes, but I’m looking forward to it! Hopefully it’s not famous last words. 😅

Thanks again for your support, it really does help.

Three points yesterday would have been a massive help in our battle to avoid relegation.

After the sending off our depleted team (once again ) worked their socks off to keep the opposition at bay.

So, so admirable.

But.......................................... I wondered if my thoughts after the final whistle would change  after a bit of time had passed, but here we are, next morning , and I still think the same.

My thoughts might not be very popular, or a bit controversial, but they are my thoughts, right or wrong.

After the sending off and penalty save yesterday, the closer we got to the full-time whistle, the bigger a nagging thought grew in my mind.

If we had won yesterday's game 1-0, it would always, in my memory banks at least, have had a massive asterisk placed against it.

That asterisk would have indicated to me that we won the game fundamentally because we broke the rules and spirit of the game by depriving Hemel of a perfectly good, legitimate goal.

I may be simplistic, naive,  old fashioned, out of touch with the reality of the situation, call me what you want, but if we had won 1-0 yesterday after what happened, it would have been a tainted victory in my eyes.

I know we are desperate for points in our situation, but I don't want to win a game  that way.

After a point today not sure a point is enough on Friday. We got lucky today that the 3 teams below us all lost but we can’t rely on that every time. Yes it’s going to be difficult to end Chippenham’s run but we really need to win as we’re running out of games. Hopefully Francis can make a cameo and please no more goal stopping handballs?

Francis wasn't even on the bench yesterday so that probably tells us that he is not fit enough yet to even be in the squad.

Francis's game is all about being explosive off the mark so a pulled hamstring is probably the worst possible injury for him.

My guess is, to be on the safe side, we're aiming for the last 3 or 4 games to get Francis involved.

Scott said “yesterday was probably a couple of days too early for Francis” so to me that says he’ll be involved in Friday.

We started the game with what looked like a 5-4-1 formation with Josh and Luca acting as wing backs.

Excellent cross and headed goal from Toggs to take the lead which would have turned into a two goal lead but for a good save from their keeper from a Johnny Goddard placed shot that was heading for the bottom corner.

The handball and sending off changed everything and survival mode set in with Hemel looking continually dangerous out wide when attacking our full backs and so it proved when they equalized from a good run and cross from a wide position.

A good point considering the circumstances.
