Sadly, the so-called moderators of this forum do nothing about it.

Calm down SG. Let's not get hypercritical.Everyone swears at some time or other.

I would rather people put their swear words down as the starting letter with the a series of asterisks ie as Wycombe Rebel has said ' S***' , so it doesnt offend people but I'm only one of several moderators and I don't run the show or do I want to.

If a forumite poster kept swearing and coming out with expletives on messages, I know he/she would get warned about his/her conduct and have their posts removed.

However, SG, on Wycombe Rebel's post in question, in my opinion you are making 'a mountain out of a molehill ' and if you are that offended I suggest you don't use the forum anymore, and start wearing earplugs at football matches. Swearing is everywhere these days more's the pity. Some people cannot speak without swearing but you can't legislate life for ignorance and dim-wits.

Get real, SG, this football forum is not a vicar's tea party.

Me thinks? God knows how you would get on being on a building site? ! !

My big fear yesterday was that if we played in the same manner against Ebbsfleet as we did against Farnborough we would be embarrassed on national tv !

It was going to be no disgrace losing to the runaway league leaders, but the manner of any defeat was important.

Losing as we did was certainly no disgrace.

We worked our socks off the entire game.

Comparing us to Ebbsfleet is like comparing chalk to cheese, we all know that, but we fought like hell and were in the game right up to the last minute of added time.

If we show the same grit and determination in our remaining games I'm sure we stand a great chance of staying up.

I entered the ground early yesterday, mainly because I wanted to make sure I would get a match programme.

I'm gutted when they sell out before I've bought one.

I always enjoy Warren's " A Rebel in Brighton" article, and "Legend of Pegasus" words.

( I don't know who Pegasus is but I admired his guts in putting his thoughts down in a previous match programme about an incident that happened in one of our matches.

His thought tallied with mine but I didn't have the bravery to put them up here on the forum! )

Yesterday I particularly wanted to read "Slough Annals" article, as it is dealing with our treble winning season of 1980/81.

I'm always impressed with the detail that goes into these articles about matches from season's long ago.

The home match against Hendon is commented on , and I well remember walking out of the ground at the final whistle thinking our Title winning hopes had gone, as we had conceded 2 goals in the last 5 minutes to lose the game 2-1.

I was amazed though to see an error in this article.

It concerns the Hitachi Cup semi-final v. Bishop's Stortford.

The article says that the match ended as a 1-1 draw ( correct), and that it then went to a replay at Slough (incorrect).

The semi was always a two legged affair, so the match at Slough was not a replay.

( Yes I know I'm a sad old git. I really should get out more ! )

The article mentions about programme covers running out before the season's end, and we did have a cheaper more basic edition for our last few home matches.

They still charged 10p for the more basic copy compared to 15p for the normal match programme.

10p.  Extortionate ! 😄

We had 3 different match programme covers that season.

Anyway, after yesterday's match I went home and spent the afternoon peering at the screen of an ipad, watching the scores from our division come through on "Flashscores'.

It reminded me of watching teletext years ago, waiting for the tv screen page to change to see any updated scores.

Was I delighted when Oxford scored a late equaliser v. Dulwich !

I then did something that I haven't done for many years.

I've written out all the games that the team's at the bottom  have yet to play, trying to see where points may be won or lost.

I remember doing this in 1981 when I compared our matches to what Enfield and Wycombe had to play.

Blimey, I remember doing this back in 1974, when as an avid Man Utd fan I tried to work out if Utd would get enough points to stay in Division 1 and not get relegated !

In my calculations Utd always did survive, but I never accounted for Denis Law's backheel for City in the Manchester derby !

It is quite interesting seeing all the matches written down that involve team's in the relegation dogfight.

So many involve the team's playing against each other.

Reading Rebel says that Taunton are likely to stay up because they have so many games in hand.

According to my figures, they have to play 6 of their 11 remaining games against relegation threatened team's ( us included), and the other 5 are against Ebbsfleet, Dartford, Chelmsford, Worthing and Bath.

And they have a run of playing Saturday, Tuesday, Friday, Monday,  Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday.

Taunton are definitely not out of it.

Similarly Hampton.

They have 7 games left, all of which are against team's fighting to avoid relegation except for one game against Dartford.

The remaining weeks of the season are definitely going to be squeaky bum time !

RR I only said it was the first time ive really accepted the possibility of relegation  Do I think it will happen? NO  If we treat every remaining game as a must win  I expected a loss today  but what has let us down is inconsistency  One excellent performance followed by  very poor one and we dont know which Rebel team will turn up!

I thought relegation was very much on the cards when Neil and Jon left.

Scott and Lee have exceeded my expectations so far and to their credit have been excellent in turning around our squad's fortunes. It's not been 'plain sailing' for them and in my mind that was to be expected given the changes in personnel and different styles of play that have been adopted.

I believe the last three signings of Temi Eweka,Luca Woodhouse and George Alexander should be catalyst that gives our team the best chance of now retaining National South status. They are inspired signings.

Losing to Ebbsfleet in my book is not to be fretted upon. If Slough can turn it on, and every player gives their all against Hemel Hempstead we have a great chance of getting the 3 points there. Against Ebbsfleet, Scott picked a team to keep them at bay and to see if Slough could nick a goal from somewhere. Against Hemel, we need a team that will attack at will and score goals but at the same time be steady and assured at the back. Our squad has a good blend now and it's good that our management and players have a full week to prepare for the Hemel match, rather than Hemel being a Tuesday night game.

Now there's a thought to conjure with, Shredding on a building site 😅

Have to say I would always put asterisks if choosing to use a swear word.

Agree but I wouldn't necessarily go gung ho against Hemel just approach the game with a positive mind set which I'm sure we will.

Scotty compared George Alexander to a 'Jamie Vardy' type of player.

Probably a bit OTT but certainly in the Matty Stevens/Tenconi style of player.

I like the idea that George Alexander is an instinctive type of striker, in that he will hit a shot with thinking too much about it. To me this is the type of striker Slough have been crying out for.  Too often strikers get carried away by wanting to be mazy and tricky rather than just being direct. Perhaps that's what Scotty mean't by the Jamie Vardy reference ie he knows how to put the ball in the net without pussy footin' about with it.

That's why I liked Charlie Strutton in his prime, as he would have the gall to shoot from anywhere and not over complicate things. I like a striker that can turn a defender on a sixpence and get a shot away. Believe it or not but Lewis Putman was this type of player before he lost his edge/nerve playing up front.

Agree, along with his work rate which was top draw.

Only my first viewing of George, apart from the welling game which I don't remember much about apart from him scoring 3 goals 😏) but his effort and energy was exceptional and I'm truly excited to see how he performs in our next few games.

Obviously he’s not Jamie Vardy but against lesser sides he will play like that type. It’s a comparison, which I think you might have taken literally. He will chase everything and hopefully get down the sides! We’ll see. But one think he won’t shirk away from is hard work.

Massive positive yesterday in my opinion.

Another excellent contribution from you HR!

I must be a sad old git like you because I did the same before yesterdays game listing all the games to be played from Slough downwards.

The only proviso is that games played towards the end of the season can be very un-predictable in the sense that there will be games where some teams will have very little to play for.

The prime example is yesterdays opponent Ebbsfleet.

I think I'm right in saying they only need 1 more win to secure the title and then the celebrations will begin and to coin a phrase 'they will be on the beach'.

Any team playing Ebbsfleet after they've secured the title will I'm sure have a much better chance of getting something from the game.

As you quite rightly say Taunton have a lot of games coming up in quick succession including playing Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, Friday and then against us on the bank Holiday Monday.

Hopefully this will all work in our favour.

If every player can give the same work rate as Alexander yesterday for the last 6 games then that’s all we can ask for. I just hope the players are totally focused as a team and all want the same end result. In an odd way I’m looking forward to the Hemel game but may also wear 2 lots of pants…
