Sammy Winston

Very sad. Was a formidable player; will remember the goals, his partnership with Tony Boot as well as that signature move of his; being back to goal 40 yards out, receiving a low, quick pass by flicking the ball around the last defender and utilising his deceptive pace to get in behind and create chance after chance. RIP.

Sad news, only just read. Really enjoyed watching him play back in the day. Slough could do with a player like him now. He was willing to twist and turn and take defenders on in the penalty area. Slough signed him when he was on the wane from his Conference days and in his first season at our club he was a revelation and banged in the goals and was a real handful/livewire.

I may be wrong on this but I have the feeling that he was knocking on the door of the England semi-pro squad,a few seasons before he signed for Slough.

RIP.

I was sorry to read about Sammy's passing yesterday. Scored a lot of goal in our last season at Wexham Park, before following Steve Browne to Boreham Wood.

As good as he was attacking the opposition goal, I have memories of him attacking a prawn ring at a buffet.

44 is no age. Sorry for his family.

There is a Go Fund Me page that has been set up to fund the funeral for Sammy.

Sharing the link in case anyone would like to contribute.

From reading the article, Sammy had experienced difficulties with his mental health. A very sad case. Having lost a very good friend of a similar age last year, it serves as a reminder that we as men need to find ways to be more open about our mental health and wellbeing, and do more to reduce the stigma behind it. 😢
