Just to clarify, I’ve never played with Elliot before. I knew him from playing against him but that’s as far as it goes. So no clouded judgement.

Elliot is such an intelligent footballer if and when we play to his strengths which we’ve been trying to do. What I mean by that is playing into his feet and getting players closer to him to be able to bring them into play.

He’s also extremely good off the ball which some people might not recognise. St Albans last week his work rate was incredible. The amount of times he secures the ball, wins free kicks in good areas is something that may go amiss.

He would openly admit that he would have expected to score more goals but since I’ve taken over he’s been worth his weight in gold on and off the pitch.

Tonbridge away was the beginning of the unbeaten run we went on, with Elliot coming on at half time and securing the ball which allowed us to get higher up the pitch. Francis and Ogo are two willing runners and will start games together before the end of the season but for now that’s not doable right now.

Its all well and good looking at players on what they can do on the ball but you spend on average 88 minutes and 30 seconds without it, so what do you bring to the team in that time which is almost just as important.

My apologies,Scott, if I got that one wrong, I assumed as you both played for Oxford City that you knew Elliot Benyon.

You make a lot of valid points on this post, that an average supporter like me doesn't always appreciate/recognise ie time off the ball, positioning and such like.

I'm surprised, though, you were expecting more goals from Elliot this season, as he hasn't been a prolific scorer for a long time. He pops up with important goals from time to time but his strike rate is low these days.  I'm not singling Elliot out solely for criticism, as my posts testify. I can appreciate the long football career he has had, and know the qualities he brings to Slough.

I believe in having 4 strikers in a good standard non league squad, and having different types of forwards to complement each other. Elliot is different to what we have in Francis and Ogo. I like Elliot's hold up play up front and clever movement which can spearhead our attack and give our team shape and a focal point to lead the line but I view Elliot as a back up striker ie 3rd or 4th choice striker NOT an automatic choice for the first eleven. This is probably where we differ on his merits to our team.

Just to say imo Elliot Benyon has put a real shift in for us especially in the last 2 games (as indeed have the other players of course). I think Tuesday's game came a bit too soon after Saturday's efforts. However, you can't make mistakes in this league and expect to get away with them. Our defensive record is testament to how we've donated games to clubs this season, particularly at home.
