V Welling 18th Feb H

After a reasonably good start to the season Welling have not been performing well since the end of September

Their last 20 league games have produced only 4 wins ( 2 away from home)  8 draws and 8 losses.

With ourselves facing 2 potentially difficult games immediately after this fixture we really need a minimum of a point but 3 would be great

Hopefully Scotty will have tied up the loose ends and our new recruit will be in the squad

Currently only Dover are between us and Welling in the league table

Lets hope for an excellent crowd Fans dont turn up to watch mediocre mid table matches but time to turn up in droves for The Great Escape!

With the difficult games coming up I think we need 3 points from this game.

We'll be doing extremely well to get anything from Dartford away on a Tuesday night and then St Albans away.

So we've got to be looking to maximize our home games especially against a side only 4 points above us in the table.

We should have loanee Matt Burgess available for this game after his bout of concussion.

As for the new loan signing, with Matt Hall seemingly picking up an injury in Monday's game logic say's he will be a defender.

Having said that we haven't been scoring many of late so it wouldn't be a complete surprise if he was a striker.

Welling are only one of 2 or 3 sides who don’t have much (currently) to play for. Not to say it’ll be easy but I’d rather be playing then than a side fighting relegation or pushing for the play offs. Although saying all that I didn’t realise they were full time! They have such a massive advantage just in terms of fitness and you’d be livid with their position if you were the money man there, not getting value for money that’s for sure!

New loan signing is 19 year old Moe Shubbar from Crawley Town who was previously on loan at Worthing.

Scott obviously rates him and he had a decent spell recently at Worthing. We potentially have 4 wingers in the squad tomorrow (Goddard, Shubbar, Dobbo, Walsh) so would make sense to try them for a period and get plenty of balls into the box for Amartey, Obi/Benyon.

Moe was last season dual registered with Cheshunt and Edgeware Didnt score for Worthing but was accredited  with a few assists

Yes but a L2 club obviously saw his potential and signed him. He’s been a first team sub as recently as a month or so ago so I’m quite excited to see what he can do tomorrow although I think he’ll start as a sub.

What all at once 😉

Scott rating him I think is based on our game at Worthing earlier in the season.

Interesting reading the Worthing forum on Moe's 3 month spell at the club.

Yes he didn’t impress the tiny minority on their forum but you have to think of all the conditions (atmosphere, bonding, manager) at a club that can affect how a player performs. Tons of players have gone to one club and not performed but then gone elsewhere and done well.

It's always nice to give out praise on here and I just thought some was deserved for an article I read on the club website yesterday.

I always read the "Slough Town Soapbox" article which appears on there a  day a two before it  can be seen in the matchday programme.

It is always a good read, but I thought the latest one which should be in today's match programme v. Welling is worthy of praise.

I thought it was a very well written piece, with a very nice tribute to Noreen.

Well done Brighton Rebel.

I couldn't agree more.

A succinct article and nice tribute to a true rebel Noreen.

A difficult game to sum up without being ultra negative.

We started the game slowly which handed the attacking initiative to Welling.

We then proceeded to gift them their 1st goal with some poor play out of defence.

Poor defending contributed to their 2nd goal and another gift was presented on a plate for their 3rd goal.

In between Francis Amartey going off injured was a major blow to our chances of getting back into the game.

The frustrating thing was between both penalty areas we were the better side but in either area, where it mattered, we were poor.

With bigger challenges coming up worryingly I'm really not sure where our goals are going to come from.

On a positive note I thought Louis Walsh did well when he came on and Moe Shabbar showed signs that he has the ability to take players on and create something.
