Ref above playing out from the back is how a high a percentage of academies coach the lads, the reality in the conference south is this does not happen with a high percentage of the teams!

I have quote for what Scott is trying to do and call it Scotty Ball, it’s in this squad but it’s  about being brave and choosing the right times to play through the thirds.  You can clearly see Scott is attempting a more possession based game.

Along with this B, development or U23’s teams is all about development no worry over loosing or being relegated affecting commercials.

The real world though when they come out to earn their stripes is they have to adapt their games as league status and points are for real and that is no easy feat.

Spot on , the young keepers now at the Academy's as you say have to be so comfortable with their feet its crazy but its the way pretty much all of them want their keepers drilled and so on, in a lot of ways its really good, my lad for example is happy to have the ball back to either foot generally and copes just fine but that's taken lots of practice.  On the other hand depending on which side he's then playing for or with which coach in charge, they don't want them doing that but instead to just clear it which does causes issues of its own and sometimes confusion as that's what they are coached every day not to do.

Sometimes they just cannot win...

Makes sense to coach keepers to be comfortable using their feet so they become like an extra outfield player/sweeper.

If I recall correctly, there were no questions about Rhys’ shot stopping abilities, but some had concerns about his distribution.

As DonnyNo6 mentioned, if you have a Manager/Coach that wants to play possession football the goalkeeper has to be good at both.

No.

He'll still have to have the basic requirements of a keeper.

Mind you if a team relies on those type of skills from a keeper he'll have to have the whole package.

Completely agree.  Just considering young keepers at the minute with this, its all about the basic fundamentals that are obviously heavily coached.  If you've got a young keeper that's then really good with their feet then that's an added bonus that can then also be worked on and really utilized as a weapon so to speak, I'm lucky that my two both are happy playing sweeper keeper if you like to help out their defence with through balls or balls over the top, most young keepers don't do that in my experience and its just an added string to their bow going forward that's then heavily worked on as well as basic keeper needs.
