Hmmmm, poor performance, point gained as didn’t think we deserved to win.

First half, I have no idea what formation we were playing. Players looked confused and they exploited our right side as it appeared we were in a lopsided 3-4-3/4–3-3, I’m not sure.

2nd half, looked like a 4-2-3-1 but Ogo was completely isolated and we played into their hands with aimless long balls time after time.

Just think we should have changed it and put Francis through the middle with Ogo.

Was very impressed with Temi!

The unbeaten run continues though 👏🏻

Decent end to end game to watch especially in the first half.

We started slowly against a lively Dover side who dominated play for the first 15/20 minutes scoring from an excellent long range effort.

After that we started to get a foothold in the game with Amartey looking dangerous and causing all sorts of problems for the Dover back line.

Equalized from a good header from Temi Eweka but really not sure how Johnny Goddard missed after turning his man and shooting wide from about 6 yards out.

Not sure what happened in the second half because we never really got going with the only efforts on goal coming from Dover who will be ruing a couple of missed chances to take the points.

In the end a decent point gained for me in front of a decent crowd.

Some good performances especially from Temi Eweka, Matt Lench and Lee Toggs.

Temi Eweka gets the nod from me for MOTM.

Yes we were disappointing today so I am happy with a point and to remain invincible in 2023.

The team has had a great shape and structure under Scott after a couple of difficult games at the start but that was not evident today. We deserved a draw, but like last week, we should have done better.

I thought Dover had most of the play especially 2nd half their number 30 was outstanding couldn’t work out why their goalkeeper was time wasting

Good player that 30, great feet and quick.

Wasn’t a good day at the office in terms of performance! I was dreadful, probably the worst game I’ve had in years but will always hold my hand up and say if that’s the case.

Never really got going as a team. The positive is that 6 weeks ago I believe we would’ve lost that game, but we take another valuable point!

Thanks for a great attendance 👏🏼

Probably a 6/10 performance but I guess us fans have got greedy recently and naturally expectations rise when results go our way. Scott can we expect any further signings and if yes would they only be loans or do you have one eye on next season and looking to get some signed early?

First match I've been to for a while and i was impressed. Lots of new faces who all showed good qualities imo.

Bit of a slow start and went behind to a great strike. Grew into the game, created some very good chances and deservedly equalised.

Personally thought first half we were 4-2-3-1 with togs and Scott in front of the back four and Obi up top. Actually thought we lost our shape a bit second half and huffed and puffed a little.

I like Obi, nothing fell for him today but he has a bit about him.

Francis scared them witless first half but struggled to get into the 2nd half.

Two centre backs were refreshing. Mobile confident and lots of potential.

Nice little cameo from Matt Burgess. Showed flashes.

Gabe put in some good crosses and gets up and down well.

Think Joe needs to be a little more confident going forward particular when you have wise old heads like Scott and Togs who will fill in for you.

Shame we couldn't quite get going second half and grab the points but certainly a game we would have lost earlier in the season.

Just a couple of points on the game.

The ref, didn't really notice him first half but second half imo he had a shocker.

All over the place when it came to spotting a foul.

Short goal kicks.

I know what the objective is but it hardly ever happens.

99% of the time our keeper will give the ball to a player inside the area and that player will be put under pressure and lump the ball forward which the keeper could have done in the first place.

What's the point?

That was the first match I have seen for a couple of months….. it wasn’t pretty, but it was another point on the board against a Dover side that were a lot better than I expected them to be.

Dover Athletic were on a league run since the beginning of December of 1-1-3 at home and 0-2-3 away. But they looked good yesterday and frequently regained possession quickly ... for me a fine divide between how good they were and how poor Rebelwere. I found it a match well worth watching and it was an orthodox competitive match unlike the previous crazy home match against Dulwich Hamlet. Johnny Goddard seemed to untypically get a lot wrong and there were some particularly wayward shots from Joe Dandy and Scott Davies. But a match for supporters to look forward to the next one.

In my opinion we definitely should be trying to play out from the back, through the thirds & in to the feet of our forwards. And under most circumstances that would mean 4 or 5 v 2 from a short goal kick which we should be both confident & capable of doing (if not we’ve got the wrong players). Playing long & high to our forwards who are outnumbered 2 v 4 with a disadvantage in the air is not a great attacking alternative.

When pressed by more than 2 it can be a disaster (watch Aston Villa v Leicester yesterday, where Villa try playing out when pressed by 5),  & there should be better options to move the ball directly or very quickly in to midfield players.

I have watched Norwich play on sky they concede a goal a game playing out from the back and they in the championship

Clubs in the Premiership, Championship and Football League who have the quality of players, coaching and time to practice playing out from the back often get caught on the ball or pressured to lump it forward.

Goalkeepers don't have to keep kicking it down the throat of big central defenders to head the ball straight back.

Jack Turner for example always angled his kicks to the wing where someone like Dobbo won the ball most times to keep the move going.

Yes fine for the goalie to pass to a defender who then runs and passes it forward and so on but none of this passing back and forth and sideways giving the opposition an opportunity to close down and potentially take advantage of a mistake which we’ve all seen many times.

Ref above playing out from the back is how a high a percentage of academies coach the lads, the reality in the conference south is this does not happen with a high percentage of the teams!

I have quote for what Scott is trying to do and call it Scotty Ball, it’s in this squad but it’s  about being brave and choosing the right times to play through the thirds.  You can clearly see Scott is attempting a more possession based game.

Along with this B, development or U23’s teams is all about development no worry over loosing or being relegated affecting commercials.

The real world though when they come out to earn their stripes is they have to adapt their games as league status and points are for real and that is no easy feat.

It doesn't happen at a lot of clubs at this level for a reason.

Most clubs are part time and to even attempt to get it right you have to have the players and importantly the time to coach players into playing this way.

As we see every week on the box even the best get it wrong.

As Footyfan says above, the academies teach goalkeepers to be confident with the ball at their feet, & Will Dennis has been at football academies since under 9’s.

I would hope our defenders are confident about his distribution abilities.

Tim Krul is a different generation of goalkeeper, and the mistake he made Saturday was so bad it wouldn’t surprise me if someone was looking into first goal scorer bets!

Jack Paxman. has been a very good player at our level and at the level above. Ex Maidstone, Ebbsfleet, not sure if he's on loan from Ebbsfleet. They've been in a bit of flux recently (a bit like ourselves), top scorer Pavey is now at Braintree, Wannadio is on the transfer list. They were fined £40k by the jobsworth NL, which coupled with relegation has obviously hit finances and now there's a new manager as well.

My point is more to do with defenders receiving the ball in the area from a goal kick and then put under pressure by the opposition to either lump it forward or at worst lose the ball.

No problem with keepers throwing the ball to a player outside the area.
