Hello everybody. I’m looking to put together an article for Football in Berkshire regarding Slough’s rivalry with Windsor FC. If you would like to put across your views regarding this topic then please fire away!! I would like as many different opinions/stories as possible. Many thanks in advance, Scott.

We used to be rivals but given Windsor helped Slough with the groundshare when we were homeless, and that Windsor have slipped further down the pyramid our rivalry has become non-existent. We did have a feisty friendly with them a few seasons ago which led to one of our players getting injured and so Bakes and Unders [our managers at the time] decided not to play them again,as a derby match pre-season against them wouldn't be beneficial to Slough.

My memory is not the best one but I would think around the late 1980's was the last real ding dong matches between them. Matches back then [in 1980's] with them were usually tight close fought battles, which could often turn niggley given the local bragging rights riding on the match, so either side would come out as victors and often with just one goal separating the teams at the final whistle [when we were in the same division] but I'm sure older fans than me must have withessed better encounters between both sides. I think Wycombe Wanderers became bigger rivals to Slough from the 1990's but even that's faded now being they're now full time professionals.

Saw some interesting encounters in cup matches from 1962-1964 which effectively saw the balance of power move north of the Thames, where it stayed for a long time.

Sure you're not getting mixed up with a friendly against Marlow where they tried to kick lumps out of us and from then on we decided not to play anymore friendlies against them.

If you are specifically referring to Windsor FC then there have been very few matches (4), but if you include Windsor & Eton FC within that then there have been a further 154 matches dating back to the first match on 12th November 1892 when Slough won 8-3 (all the match results can be found in the historical data base on the Slough club web-site).

I’m sure one of the oldies on here will come along soon and tell you they were at that match & what colour kits the teams were wearing 😉

No, as 'C'est La Vie' has said it was the friendly match that Warren Harris got injured in. I'm sure it was against Windsor FC at Stag Meadow. Time flies but it must have been at least, 6 seasons ago. Got a feeling there was a sending off in the match, too, and lots of handbag stuff.

In truth 3spirit there's been a few 'friendlies over the years which were far from friendlies with Marlow, Windsor and Uxbridge being 3 of them that I recall.

No 3spirt is right a preseason match at Windsor was just a game for them to kick lumps out of us. So never played again.

Loved the matches with Windsor back in the day! I went to Windsor boys school so most of my mates supported Windsor I was one of the few Slough fans! Remember some great banter with Chuck moussadik/martini! George friel, Jamie Jarvis. Didn't they have Ralf little playing for them too? Also remember a rather good song sung to Dennis green! Whose your father Dennis green etc

I recall being amongst a group of young supporters behind the Windsor goal at York Road during the 1964/65 B&BSC semi-final. Our chafing of the Windsor goalkeeper definitely got under his skin and we'd like to think helped a bit towards our second half equalizer in a game we went on to win. It was, I have to admit though, pretty tame by the standards of the time.
