Tonbridge Angels A 7th Jan Match Thread

Predictions are difficult at present due to the state of flux we're  in but at least we are improving and strengthening  Tonbridge are currently 10th and currently enjoying their new 3g pitch (so should we) but have stuttered lately losing their last three league game  twice to Welling and a 5-0 drubbing to Weymouth Im hoping for at least 1 point(ideally3) and no injuries!

After our last 2 results and performances, confidence should be high and I’d be disappointed if we don’t get at least a draw especially with the recent additions. Ideally we need to get at least 4 points from 6 in our next 2 games as the clubs below us have a few games in hand on us.

I’d like to us play this team tomorrow:

Forster; Davies Hall George; Jackman Lench Togwell Kayani; Benyon; Obi Amartey

Same formation as Oxford City away, 3-4-1-2

With Aaron Kuhl out, I would have opted for Scott Davies in centre midfield with Matt Lench and George Hunt[if fit], in a straight 3-5-2  ie Forster; Hall Togwell Woodhouse;  Jackman Hunt  Davies Lench George;  I would start the game with Benyon and Amartey up front and look to bring Obi on when needed for whoever. However, looking at the subs bench that would mean 5 attackers on the bench and no defensive cover so with this in mind I would plump for a 3-4-1-2 of Forster; Hall Togwell Woodhouse ;  Jackman Hunt Lench George;  Goddard in a free role; with Benyon and Amartey up front. The subs would then be Davies,Kayani,Gyimah,Walsh and Obi.

Interesting to see Nicky Gyimah (19 year old former Sunderland under 23) in the squad…… I think he was on the bench for our home match against Havant in early December.

Really strange one this because for the second time this season it looks like he's only in the squad to make up the numbers.

Young lad who's either 19 or 20 depending on what DOB is correct, thought good enough to sign contracts with Sunderland and Peterborough but released by both clubs and doesn't seem to have played for or be attached to any club other than Slough.

Sounds like a player who offered a lot of promise but for one reason or another never fulfilled it (although he’s obviously young enough to still make it). It does appear he’s just making up the numbers and it would be useful to see him play as he must have something about him? It also highlights we only currently have 15 players available which is a big worry. It could be another 3-4 weeks until Dandy is back to full fitness and match sharpness and we’re yet to know how long Kuhl is out for. Hopefully Scott can reassure us that there’s another 1 or 2 imminent arrivals and quality players at that not just ones to inflate the numbers.

While I agree we are light in numbers, GlenSTFC, our team has had so many changes since Scott and Lee's appointment, that I feel we could do with a period of stability. Keep bringing players in for the sake of it can actually disrupt the progress our team is making. Instead of bringing players in for the sake of making up the numbers, we should now be cherry picking experienced non-league performers for certain positions. Losing Aaron Kuhl is a huge blow but we don't know how long he's going to be out for. That said we still have plenty of players to cover Aaron's loss, that can play in centre midfield. In our forward line we now have good options and 4 strikers, something Bakes and Unders in their latter years at Slough would never make the squad up with.

To me we should be on the lookout for a left footed centre half to replace Luca Woodhouse when his loan expires. Other than that, I don't see that we are desperate for anyone else right now. Getting Joe Dandy back will be a big help but I don't see him being the answer to the left centre half situation. We need to find a player like Mark Nisbet/Dave Woozley, someone who has plenty of experience in the non-league game and leads by example. Other than that I don't think we are far off from being a useful squad indeed, given our resources.

Gabe was excellent at left centre back against Oxford City and Imran was excellent at left wing back in the same game. I’d have no issue if Scotty decided to give those 2 a prolonged run in those positions

3spirit your second 11 mentioned is what I would go with, a certain person I know is raring to go.

Not a cat in hells chance Scotty has signed Ogo and Francis for one of them to sit on the bench, absolutely no chance

Why rush to play your two best rated forwards against Tonbridge away from home?

I would stick with Elliot leading the line. I did cock up with my line up by omitting Ogo for Francis,as Ogo has been superb since his arrival from Hemel and it sends out the wrong signal to Ogo to drop him for Francis but I have the Farnborough game in mind, more than the Tonbridge one.

I'd be happy with a draw today,as long as we create good chances to score and play on the front foot.

At Farnborough I want Slough to win.

One game doesn't make half a season trying to stay in this division !

To me an experienced left footed centre half with leadership skills is vital to help prolong our status at this level and is then in place for next season [whatever division we are in].

Gabe George is still learning,as is Imran Kayani. Both will get games and will improve with the right players around them but let's be be clear these two players will not be good enough to keep Slough in the National South[regardless of their potential].

Completely disagree, if they weren’t good enough they wouldn’t be in the team

So it’s…

Forster; Davies Hall Woodhouse; Jackman Togwell Lench George; Goddard; Obi Amartey

Really like the look of this starting 11!

We're 3-0 down at half time !

Rebels mustn't give up but a rearrangement obviously needed to start the second half.

Unless we sign 2 centre backs we are going to struggle to get out of the relegation battle… We need Joe Dandy and 2 other experienced CBs
