Amersham Town are looking good for a play-off place and could leapfrog Northampton Sileby Rangers into third place with a win at Thame United Reserves:

A groundhopper from another Forum was present, also see his Blog:

Spartan South Midlands Division One
Thame United Reserves 2-1 Amersham Town
Att: 41, Entrance: £5
No programme, teamsheet, and the tea-bar was closed. The bar was open though!
On another day Amersham might have scored six, but a combination of poor finishing, wrong options and stoic defending saw Thame hold out for an unlikely victory against the promotion hopefuls.
All three goals were good finishes, with two headers for Thame and a sharp 20 yard effort for Amersham making the score 2-1 at the interval. Despite, dominating the second half, Amersham were unable to fashion an equaliser.
A full report is attached for anyone interested

Division One
London Tigers 2 Holmer Green 4

A critical groundhopper from another Forum was present:

15:00 - Spartan South Midlands League Division One
London Tigers 2-4 Holmer Green

Admission - free (nobody taking payment) Attendance - 55 head count however official is 45 (no idea who counted)
Venue: Spratleys Meadow - I’m not quite sure how this has made ground grading at Step 6 with both Amersham Town and London Tigers playing here. It felt like a Step 7 or below standard game and also atmosphere with no admission fee, no tannoy system, no Club Officials, no team sheets or programmes etc. There was no turnstile, hidden down a Country Lane there is a small car park which was full so I had to park in a nearby residential area. There’s a small Clubhouse on the car park and seperate toilet facilities. There is one stand on one touchline, raised above pitch level due to being on a bank. This is the only spectator furniture. Despite the lack of facilities the venue is in a lovely setting with the rolling hills around.
Game - an early corner for the visitors was mishit but bobbled back to a Holmer foot to smash into the top right corner, 0-1. Tigers nearly equalised when their left winger was played through but a good save by the keeper kept the away side in the lead. Tigers shoddy defending showed again when a throw in led to a pinball in the box however the one defender was outnumbered 3-1 so it was always going to fall to a Holmer foot to prod in, 0-2. Tigers pulled one back just on half time as another bit of head pinball by the defence, this time Holmer Green, fell to the right back who smashed the ball into the roof of the net, 1-2. Tigers pushed on in the second half but couldn’t muster anything more than a half chance before Holmer Green scored a third when a free header from a corner was converted, 1-3. A late Tigers comeback was halted by a further Holmer Green goal for a deserved win. Two poor teams with the worst losing and also losing ground at the bottom of the table.

Division One
Moulton FC 2 Lutterworth Athletic 3

A groundhopper from another Forum was in attendance:

KO 3.00pm, Game 2 of 2023
South Midlands League Division One
Moulton 2-3 Lutterworth Athletic
Attendance 155, Admission £3 (concession over 60), Programme £2, Badge £4, Coffee £1.20
Round trip 128 miles
Temperature: 7 Celsius dropping to 4 by games end
Travellers made up circa half the attendance today as Step 6 new boys Moulton from Northampton drew a big crowd on a bank holiday.
The newish ground is functional without having much character, the club will make money from the pitch hire, so I'm sure they'll be happy. But definitely a case of visit once, and unlikely to return. Friendly people though.
A really good game that fluctuated from one end t'other. Moulton thought they'd salvaged a draw with a 90+1 strike from Andy Hall, however two minutes later sub Tyler Gerrard hit a sublime half volley from 20 yards out of the reach of home keeper Adamson to win it for Lutterworth. A good game and a good social catch up with well known hoppers from Sale, Worthing and Horsham.

Division One
Rugby Borough 1 Burton Park Rangers 0

Kilsby Lane was awash with groundhoppers last night and some from another Forum (see below) completing their 'trebles':

7.45 - Spartans South Midlands League Division One - Rugby Borough 1 Burton Park Wanderers 0 - Admission £3 concession - Programme £1 - Attendance 213
On to Rugby which was reached at 6.45 with programmes still being printed. I was told that as they were being printed in house, there wouldn’t be a problem if they sold out as they could just print some more.

Another for whom Rugby Borough at 7.45pm made a treble, where good chat was had with old friends. I indeed benefitted from a prog kindly being printed on demand. Between mouthfuls of the chips he'd smuggled in unneccessarily (good football fare was on offer - steak pie & chips for me) Veteran said that he had got the last prog of the original batch. His treble had started in Sussex, a long way from Derbyshire. But from my basecamp in Leeds I CBA trekking as far south as all the morning KOs were, so was glad to find that one of the 1pms had a 3pm near enough to be doubleable.

Also at Rugby, many grondhoppers there and overheard many discussing their day out trebles. Indeed sat in front of Windy in the stand as I heard him describe his day to another hopper. Agree with his report, Rugby Borough, the higher league side, were lucky to secure a win, opponents Burton Park deserved something from the game.

+1 here, BPW were a big, strong team with several players over 6 foot, unfortunately upfront they had a willing runner in their number 9 but he was left to do all the hold up play and attacking alone, and his lack of physical power I believe was the difference between BPW scoring, or ultimately not.
