Division One
Eaton Socon A Raunds Town (abandoned on 55 mins with Eaton Socon leading 4-1, floodlight failure)

A groundhopper from another Forum had to be all present and correct at this one didn't he:

The St Neots Interiors Stadium
Eaton Socon A (4) Raunds Town A(1) (abandoned due to floodlight failure)
Spartan South Midlands League
Adm. £5, Prog. £1, Tea £1

Having missed out on this ground when it was pencilled in for an earlier Saturday, due to bad weather, I thought I'd best take the opportunity available to me today.
Now there are two ways of looking at it, one is its a unique and characterful venue, the other is, what kind of set up do you call this.
Plus points are the printed programme, the two covered areas with railway seats and benches and the Way Out sign, all clearly procured from the local Thameslink Great Northern railway station
Also of note are the vintage sign boards in the clubhouse and general old fashioned decor.
On the down side, a tea bar doubles up as a Club bar before the match with bottled ales only, as the main Clubhouse takings do not go to the football club, therefore that is only open after the match and has no draft or cask anyway. Toilets can be accessed though, but there is no signage and you have to pass one of the dressing rooms and use the players tunnel to get to it. A 50/50 raffle was taken at great effort walking round, but sadly the same effort was not put in to disseminating the result of the draw.
Some good play from the home side coupled with poor marking from Raunds resulted in a 4 goal half time cushion for Eaton Socon.
Sadly, not more than ten minutes into the second half the floodlights went on the blink, with numerous attempts at putting them on again only resulting in all the power at the venue tripping out. After play was stopped for the third time the players left the field, never to return, and there was no option but to head to a pub and await a train home. A disappointing end as the second half was looking good.
For the record, the Pig & Falcon was decidedly average, the Wetherspoons only had Greene King on, and the best ale was the Adnams Tally Ho Barley Wine at the Ye Olde Sun before the game.

Division Two
Old Bradwell United 6 New Bradwell St Peter 1

A groundhopper from another Forum was present, a good attendance of 224 who hopefully made good donations:

OLD BRADWELL UNITED (4) 6 NEW BRADWELL ST PETER (0) 1 South MIdlands Division 2. Free and programmes by donation. Att: 224. Sports Club in one corner which is also the cricket pavilion. Barrior on 3 sides with a rope along one touchline. The only furniture is the dugout's which are painted with a kingfisher on one side. This was top v 2nd but it turned out to be one sided. The home team having scored 4 goals in the first 30 minutes they even missed a penalty just after half time. With the score at 5-0 the visitors No 6 was sent off for 2 yellow cards. New Bradwell did score a consolation goal only for the new League leaders to score again.

Well known groundhopper from another Forum and Blogger, Steve B, was also present at this unfortunate abandonment:

Also at this. Frustrating obviously but we were staying overnight in nearby Huntingdon and it was my only option for a new ground anywhere nearby. As the game reached at least half time it'll go into my records as a 'tick' (life's too short etc etc).
The ground is clearly a work in progress, and getting the floodlights fixed can be added to the things they'll need to sort to stay at this level for a second season. My attendance headcount was 110.

Premier Division
Colney Heath 2 London Colney 1

A groundhopper from another Forum was present, new Colney Heath supremo George Georgiou has really hit the ground sprinting:

3pm - Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Colney Heath 2-1 London Colney
Attendance 159
Admission £10, including free pie and pint, Programme on-line only
Set off just after 11.00am with my SatNav giving estimated arrival time at Ampthill as 1:25pm only for traffic to add more than an hour to that after first getting stuck on the A31 around Ringwood, then all the way from Eastleigh to Winchester on the M3, the M25 being a car park all the way from the M3 to M40 had taken my arrival time past 2:30pm and knowing Ampthill tweeted only a limited number of programmes would be available on the gate (probably selling out an hour before kick-off) the final straw was the Matrix signs warning of a 20 minute delay on the M1 after Luton so ditched Ampthill for the nearer option of Colney Heath arriving at 2:10pm.
Not a classic my any means, all three goals were from close range after scrambles in the box, the hosts taking the lead on 20 minutes and seemed to be in control after doubling their lead early in the second half but the visitors staged a late rally pulling a goal back five minutes from time and had the hosts hanging on at the end.
Colney Heath spent last season in the Southern League and amazed they obtained the ground grading! Barely 100 seats in two rows front of the wooden Clubhouse with room for a single row of spectators to stand behind being the only cover. Ground isn't fully enclosed either with a warm up pitch on opposite side leading to a fishing lake behind the trees at the far end, spectators could easily gain free entry from there avoiding paying what must be the highest admission price at Step 5, doubt they always offer free pie and pint with the tenner and had to decline my pint in favour of a cup of tea as I was driving.

Buckingham Athletic will also be disappointed with their 'horrible' 2022/23 campaign although new boss Robert Russell has the experience and ability to turn fortunes around at Stratford Fields:
