Taunton home FA Trophy match

As I'm bored, and don't want to think about Englands exit from the World Cup, I thought I'd start this thread.

Having now viewed the new players we have at the club, and sort of know which of our regular players are staying, and which are injured, I wondered what team line up and formation would fans choose for the Taunton cup match [ taking no notice of those cup tied].

I would play a 3-4-1-2 of

                                                Forster

                                     Jeanes  Hall  Woodhouse

Jackman[wing back[      Kuhl    Hunt         George [wing back]

                                                     Lench

                                            Obi           Chentouf

Subs: Togwell, Davies, Matshazi, Benyon, Kayani, Louis and the new bloke from Sunderland !

Togs and Scott I would leave out of the first eleven to see how the three at the back get on.

I think Scott said in an interview that the new players were cup tied.

Presumably he meant just Hall and Obi.

I haven't seen anything of Connor Jeanes to include him in a Slough side.

Connor Jeanes came on as a sub at the Hanwell match, you were there Reading Rebel I stood next to you for a good while ! 😄   Unless, of course you have a double...ha ha !

Gabe, Imran, Matt Hall, Ogo are all cup tied. Togs will be unavailable. Joe Dandy will still be out injured. I’m hoping Jonny G might be able to play a small part.

This week will be spent getting the best possible team together for that game as I believe it’s a winnable one. Just frustrating that we will be limited in what we can do with player availability so if anything, it’s most likely to be loans which is great for one game to help out for numbers but we want more experience joining the squad for the league campaign.

Just when we could do with some continuity, we now have this lot out. Not getting any easier, Scott, is it?

I agree it's a winnable game at home but with so many players out or not available it feels like three steps forward[the Havant match] and ten steps back with this trophy tie.

Getting in too many loan players is unlikely to bring success but I can see you haven't got much option this week. I'm definitely on the same page as you, though, when you say it's better to bring in experienced players for the league campaign. To me there's still plenty of talent around the non-league scene that  could be chanced upon, that shouldn't cost the earth especially in the divisions one step down. It's nailing down the positions we need.

Im more than hopeful for this one  Taunton are a bit Jekyll and Hyde in their first season They are one of 2 teams yet to lose at home( Braintree is the other) but theyve been very poor away winning just 1 of 9 away games and that 0-1 against rock bottom Hungerford .

Very frustrating I’m sure but are we looking at more Jefferson Louis type loans to plug the gaps just for 1 or 2 games? How far down the line are you with more experienced quality players joining?

I like your positivity Adrian but I wouldn't mind Slough being a bit Jekyll and Hyde because at least we'd be winning at home and getting something from games like Hungerford away instead of nothing.

Have you entered into your 'hopeful' calculations that we will have players missing and will have to rustle up some players from wherever we can find them?

Getting back to the football, I wonder whether this game will be on, and how we are progressing in finding other players for this game?

The forecast is for slightly ‘warmer’ weather towards the weekend so hopefully it’ll be on and having a 3G is easier to clear than grass. If we bring in any more players I can only imagine it’ll be more Jefferson Louis types to fill for 1 or 2 games.

Once we get through Weds/Thurs I think its going to warm up a bit, as long as there is no more snow as you cannot brush the pitch we should be okay.

The one thing you can not physically remove from a 3g pitch is snow, as it removes all the black stabilisation balls with it. You have to wait for it to melt, so it will be down to the temperatures of the next few days

Spot on, most people think its okay to clear them of snow/ice with a brush, its not.  Myself and my team look after a FIFA Pro 3G here at the school, big misconception.

Since the last round we’ve had 4 players depart, Togs is also unavailable, I’ve been carrying an injury for a couple of weeks so I will be taking a break this weekend too.

Gabe, Imran, Matty Hall and Ogo cup tied.. it’s been a crazy week trying to get a squad together for this weekend! But, we’ve managed it.

There will be a lot of new faces to coming in at the weekend to help out on dual registration for the match. Fortunately these are people that I trust who are playing at a lower level now but for valid reasons. Three of the players coming in have hundreds of games between them between step 1-3, majority being at step 3 and all over the age of 30 which comes with great experience and that’s what I thought was essential for a cup game.

It’s a frustrating time to say the least with not being able to pick our strongest 11 for a game like this but it is what it is. For me, from January 1st, it’s going to be a mini league for 4 months where we will hopefully be able to give the best account of ourselves and retain our clubs national league south status.

Presumably Scott, Togs is on holiday and not anything more worrying?

I think every loyal Slough supporter has been astounded by the efforts of Scott, and no doubt others, in their efforts since taking over. Injuries, leavers, suspensions, and icing on the cake this week - cup tied.
