RR - saw him 5-6 times for Hanwell last year and obviously the Hemel game this. When Tom Derry left last season I wanted Neil and Jon to go after him as a replacement. I think he'll do really well, he is strong and qucik, decent in the air and knows where the goal is. As a replacement for Ben Harris its a big upgrade IMO. Will be interesting to see how he fits in and what impact he makes.

Lets hope he does SF and that being at Slough will rekindle the promise he showed earlier in his career.

Great to hear Aaron has signed a contract at least we don’t need to worry on that front. Sounds like there were some players who obviously weren’t on board but good to know the squad we now have are united.

Got to admire him for not jumping ship and showing loyalty when the going gets tough.

Ben Harris back at Windsor 👀

Surprised in a way as I thought he’d end up at Beaconsfield or a similar club at step 3 or 4. That’s a big drop in standard going to Windsor and for a very long time they weren’t paying players, so I wonder if that’s changed or he’s just gone there as it’s familiar surroundings, has mates there and he can shine at that level.

I think they still only pay expenses.

I think it's probably just to get a game until the end of the season.

I heard George Wells has signed for Hanworth Villa for more money.

Their last home gate was 91 so someones putting a lot of money into Hanworth.

Sorry just realized I should have put this under the George Wells thread.

Yeah yeah that’s yesterday’s news, do keep up old chap!

But as you say on such poor crowds and if they’re paying that sort of wage then someone is putting in thousands per week. Really not sure why Hanworh as I just can’t see the potential unless the club own land…

Or just a supporter or local celebrity who wants to help the club out.

I think Rectory Meadow is a protected space in something called 'Fields in Trust' which I suppose means it must remain as green space and cannot be built on.

I think they call it delusions of grandeur.

Either that or they've got money to burn.

Pity Slough couldn't find someone with money to burn ! 😀

Exactly! It’s frustrating when these money men decide to throw their money at teams who just don’t have the potential whereas teams like us do and that sort of money could see us to the next level if spent wisely.

Don't forget the lower down the pyramid a team are the cheaper it is to run and sometimes starts as just a bit of fun or an ego trip.

Once you start climbing the leagues costs start to soar.

Even though Wells maybe on more money I wouldn't think the rest of the players are getting anywhere near his wages.

Slough are in a catch 22 situation, in that big home crowds only seem to want to watch the glory games ie big fa cup game or title decider/play off or taking on a top professional side like Chelsea. When it comes to run of the mill league games many are simply not interested in attending, or go and watch someone else.

To me football games are getting too expensive, taking everything else into consideration that needs paying for. Coming to watch non league football is no longer a cheap pastime it once was, so to me there is a lot of appeal in functioning as a smaller club rather than spending a fortune on the pipe dream of league football. However, I know I'm in the fan minority, when I say this.
