Right, lets give it another go 😅

The mystery striker is someone we know so as far as I can see the only player that played for an NLS side last night that fits the bill is Tommy Wood from Hampton.

He came on loan to us from AFC Wimbledon for a month in the season 17/18.

If it is Tommy Wood he should have improved since Slough had him on loan, and I would view him as a striker playing alongside a number 9. The only caveat to that is that Hampton are themselves in financial difficulty and are decimated by injuries and like Slough are struggling for points,so why are they letting him go?

Since leaving Slough the only club he's really scored goals at over a period of time is Tonbridge Angels where he scored 15 goals in 45 appearances.

Well, if it is him joining, we fans should give him a chance/clean slate to prove himself, it's not like we can splash the cash on getting a 20 to 30 goal striker. Anything will be better than watching Ben Harris diving/feigning injury and arguing with referees.

When Tommy Wood joined our team under Neil and Jon's direction I thought he had definite potential, and it will be good to actually have a tall forward in the box for a change, as you know I get fed up with our team being modelled on characters from 'Lilliput' ! ha ha !

Talent comes in all shapes and sizes of course, but as Slough have aired on being a rather small side to many of the opposition in recent seasons I can see no harm in adding a few bigger blokes to our squad in an effort to bring about a slight change in how this Bakes and Unders team operates [not by changing their wisdom of team spirit and togetherness and work rate] but the adding of a couple/few beefy characters to make the side more formidable when battling for points. It was noticeable how weedy Slough looked when we played Hanwell in the Trophy match. Had Hanwell scored in the first two minutes when they struck the crossbar that game could easily have slipped by us especially when we got in broiled in the handbag stuff near the dugout that resulted in the Matt Lench sending off.

Relegation threatened sides need a bit of sterner stuff, however, Slough still have a long way to go before we become a relegation prospect and we have a number of good talented footballers in our squad, so more importantly to me it's about playing a good brand of attacking football to keep the fans on board this rollercoaster ride with Scott and Lee at the helm. You can't be relegated in December and while there will departures from our squad the nucleus of our team still has plenty to offer.

As you know 3spirit size isn't everything ha ha ! as Hanwell discovered but a couple of players with a bit of size and talent wouldn't go amiss.

You mentioned about some players leaving apart from your mate Ben Harris and Guy Hollis and still having talented players in the squad.

Well it depends what players were to leave.

The likes of Aaron Kuhl, Johnny Goddard, Lenchy, Wellsy, Josh Jackman etc are pivotal to our survival and if they were to leave the odds of us getting out of this mess imo would be substantially diminished.

I've always said to girlfriends and the missus that size doesn't matter but they didn't seem to share my point of view! ha ha!

I agree that losing key players will weaken the side considerably so I hope we don't make loads of changes for changes sake but obviously some players will want to leave the club/or will be headhunted. A too high turnover of players will put Slough in the sh*t in my opinion but our new management team can only act accordingly to what players want out.

What has been good so far since Scott and Lee took over, is just being able to bring in a few new faces,as under Bakes and Unders their hands were tied getting anyone in.

I could be reading this completely wrong (so, please correct me :)), but this comment comes across as if B&U wernt allowed to get anyone in, but now theyve gone, Scotty can.

Or

Is Scotty shopping in a different store to that of one B&U wanted to shop at but couldnt...

Hi Scott,

I went to just about every Aldershot home league match in the 2007/8 season, where a squad of very young lads (18-20) including Anthony Straker, Lewis Chalmers, Dave Winfield, Scott Donnelly, Kirk Hudson, Danny Hilton, Joel Grant & you won the National Conference.

Are the days where players that age are willing & able to play in the National League? Or seeing the performance of Luca Woodhouse the other night, could we possibly see you trying to develop a young exciting squad at Slough?

Hi Curtis! Great observation…

We want a young, hungry but talented group. Players wouldn’t be at this level playing if they weren’t deemed good enough, but on top of that we want them to love playing the game. To me that’s so important.

We obviously have to be extremely careful that we keep experience in amongst the side too. The conference south is an unforgiving league when it comes to the physicality of it.

There was always going to be a lot of changes once Bakes and Unders left, and one that we were prepared for but I think over the next 2-3 weeks when we have a fully fit squad to choose from then we will be fine. Adding Joe, Lenchy, Jonny, Elliot, those four would improve most national league south sides!

Good news also, the new striker is signing tonight! Will definitely give us something different. Hopefully he can hit the ground running!

For those of us who are impatient, any clues on our new striker Scott?

What I mean't by that, RebelMatters, is that it seemed that Bakes and Unders could only bring in 18 year olds on loan and that the budget was exhausted on what had been spent bringing in new players in pre-season ie Goddard, Benyon, Sole, Dandy, whereas because the club have now saved money by getting Scott and Lee as player managers [and with Neil,Jon and Trent going], and with the fallout of players leaving or being released it feels like our new men in charge are able to bring in a better quality of non-league player to the loans Bakes and Unders were doing latterly.

Will we find out who the striker is tonight or will it be announced officially tomorrow? Anyone know?

My guess is a player from Hemel Hempstead- they recently signed a new striker so presumably we get their old one. No idea who it could be though.

Dunno they pay their players very well, not sure any would be in our price range unless they’re taking a pay cut.

The information we have already been given for this new striker is that he's known to the Slough supporters, he's currently at an NLS club and that he couldn't join before Tuesday because his manager needed him for a game on Tuesday night.

This would rule out any local clubs playing that night except Hampton and Richmond and the only players who fit the bill at Hampton are Tommy Wood or Francis Amartey (which it won't be unless he takes a big pay cut which I can't see happening).

This could be complete balderdash but unless we've been given a complete bum steer this is my best guess.

I have to question whether we've saved much money on Bakes and Unders leaving.

I don't know about Trent but I seem to recall, I think it was Bakes saying that they never took a wage but only expenses.

I'll let Scott confirm the details as I'd never point out anything I hear or see at training until made official but we have signed a striker who actually scored against us earlier this season, good news though.

Interesting… RR dashes to the archives! Donny in your opinion is this an exciting big signing and someone you think could score a few with the right service?
