v Concord

IMO there is cause for some optimism for this one  not just team members fit again or possible newbies. Concord won 0-1 at Hungerford on the opening day of the season  since then they've  picked up just three points on away grounds the vast majority of their points have been won at home their away record is dire  lets hope we can keep it that way It truly is the proverbial 6 pointer.

You're right Adrian we have to be positive about this game although Concord will have been boosted by their very good home win against Hemel on Saturday.

We are still missing two very important players in Johnny Goddard and Matt Lench and hopefully George Wells has recovered from the flu.

Possible two newbies in the squad but we are relying on them, if selected, to hit the ground running which is a big ask.

Whichever way you look at it both teams are desperate for the points and real scrap is in prospect.

To Scott or anyone in the know

Are we[the Slough fans] finding out who these two new players are - tonight/tomorrow[day time], or will we have to wait till the team announcement at tomorrow night's game? Just wondering.

My life is so dull that I have to ponder about such things....ha ha!

They’ll be announced in the morning. One is permanent, one is helping out short term on a basis, could be one game but also might possibly be longer depending on the situation of bringing other players in.

Im determined not to bring in any more young players on loan with the situation we are in, when I quite easily could, but I don’t think that’s the answer to our problems right now.

Having put 7 dayers in for players, we are having to wait for the week to clear before speaking to them hence why things are taking slightly longer than wanted/expected.

Im hoping by Wednesday/Thursday that we will be bringing in an attacking player from another conference south club but his manager wants him for one more game tomorrow night before allowing us to hopefully get the deal over the line.

I really do think that in 10-14 days time we will have a good squad to choose from with everyone back available but for now we just have to try our best with what we have. Been dealt a tricky set of cards, but I’m still enjoying it in the weirdest of ways.

Appreciate the hard work you and Togs are putting in especially with your day job involving a lot of mileage. Looking forward to seeing who these new players are.

Another reason we must treat this one  as a 6 pointer  must win game is that Concords next 5 games till New Years Day are Ourselves 19th Hungerford 23rd Dulwich 20th Cheshunt A 22nd Cheshunt H 22nd Dulwich 1 point behind us have 3 games in hand!

Blimey, thats an interesting run of fixtures over Xmas and NY for them. Could be a make or break time for them.

And we've got Concord, Havant, Chelmsford and Oxford City twice.

I think I know who's fixtures I'd prefer.

Its a strange one as with the squad and management still in a transition stage, it might actually be better to play the teams at the top and tougher sides during this period to allow that transition to take place without the added pressure of playing sides around us. Yes, the results will be harder to come by, but all of those 4 matches (with the trophy in there as well) would be tough ones for us regardless of form / squad / managers, so get them out of the way, if we can nick something in any of them its a bonus, and hit the new year with some new players, a settled squad under Scott and Lee and then see where we go from there, rather than having a load of teams around us take advantage and gain on us by beating us and put ourselves in a position to almost having to beat Havant etc.

Has anyone looked at the form table? Concord are 4th having won 4, drawn 1 and only lost away to Dartford in their last 6 league matches!!!!

That's the point I made earlier  all season they've been dire away  let's hope tonight's no different!

No mention of Joe Dandy for tonight? Not in the 16 or in the list of absentees.

Scott said on Saturday that Joe would be out for a couple of weeks and he is listed in the paragraph with Lench, Goddard, Dandy and Wells as being injured.

Not sure this game is as ‘crucial’ as some are proposing . Yes we are on a bad run but even after tonight there will be 25 games left .
We are going through the biggest upheaval at the club in 10 years.
I always thought Bakes and Unders would leave us on the up for a bigger job . The fact they have left us on the down but with so much of the season still to go is a small positive . But the transition was always going to be painful. The loyalty that they engendered in the squad was always going to evaporate after they had gone leading to a rapid turnover of players . A win tonight won’t save our season but be a welcome relief , a defeat will be depressingly familiar. Who knows whether we can forge a team capable of holding on in this division. What we do know is that we have more than half the season left to find out .

Not winning has become a habit, it’s now 10 league games without a win, how many more games do you give it before it’s too late? If we win tonight it’ll not only give us a nice cushion from the teams below but a massive confidence boost. A defeat and if other results go against us will see us in a relegation place. Psychologically that could be pretty hard to shake off.

Agree with that Glen. Stan does however make a fair point about this evenings game. Whilst a win, IMO, is a must, its not the be all and end all given the current state of play in the league for us with 19 points. Looking pre-COVID shutdowns, the league itself had 22 teams in it and 45+ points would have seen us very, very safe in 19/20 and safe in 18/19. Looking at the remainder of our fixtures and with over half way to go, another 26 points (9 wins or some make up of those) should be achievable, assuming that once things settle down the form does turn around.

I think it's also key to realise that we still have plenty of players missing for various reasons and some more new talent heading in, so hopefully once it all settles down, we can turn this form around and get ourselves heading towards 45+ points.

Although Concord defended very well we really should have taken all three points against 10 men.

Some decent performances including a good debut from Matt Hall at center back but as has been the case this season our lack of fire power was plain for all to see.

We were done no favours with Cheshunt, Dulwich, Hemel and Farnborough all picking up 3 points.

We desperately need Goddard, Lench and Wellsy back and for the new striker to hit the ground running.
