Ebbsfleet Match Thread 3rd Dec

Very interesting Looking Ahead.

Headlines I guess are - Ben Harris leaves the club by mutual agreement. No issue with this as unfortunately since Ben has returned from his ankle injury he has been a shadow of the player that started the season. Always going to happen IMO and when he left the first time in the summer I had no issue with it, was shocked when Neil and Jon resigned him and pleasantly surprised with the first few games of the season with him and Elliot. As soon as that first injury hit it was always going to be an issue for him and it has proved to be that way. Step 4/5 for him and his fitness levels now is the one for Ben. Will be interesting to see how the club adjusts to his departure and whether that'll be a saving on the budget move (i.e. nothing perminant to replace him, or, whether if the budget is ok, there will be a replacement in the coming weeks.

A new loanee from Wycombe, left sided centreback / left back / left wing back and I think some cover for George / any left back is something we have been crying out for over a number of seasons now. What this also does is allows Josh to stick to his best and most dangerous position as well as if George has to move into centreback for any reason, Luca Woodhouse can cover as well.

Shame about Goddard extending the injury, he needs to get fit and start performing for us. Benyon is the same and with his shoulder, then back and now flu, I am starting to question him as well. He needs to get fit ASAP and start performing, or decide its not going to happen and move on.

A very tough game and not expecting anything at all, but getting things right ASAP is vital as Tuesday night v Concord is the game to get 3 points for the new management team IMO.

I too was very surprised when Ben was released then resigned in the summer but I think his release (was he released or had he decided to leave?) is the right move for both parties. I too am not convinced yet by Elliot, I wasn’t overly fussed when he signed and what I’ve seen so far hasn’t changed my mind, so I think once for he needs to really show what he can do. In all honesty I’m not expecting anything away to Ebbsfleet but if we can play well and make it a close contest then hopefully that may take some confidence going into the more important game v Concord where I think it’s absolutely vital we get at least a point (if we’ve not created miracles 3 days earlier!). Especially with our old chums visiting on Saturday we have to start picking up some points urgently.

All I have for this one is the hope that we'll  play exceptionally well and they wont. We are going into it with 2points from the last 27  Ebbsfleet played 20 consecutive games from 6th August when the season started and  won 17 and drew 3  However they've  lost the last 3!

It will imo take Scotty  6/8 weeks to get the team he wants playing as he wants them to  Unrtil then we must hope to pick up the odd points that most wont expect  I think its being forgotten that we're  not in the run in We havent even played half the games yet so plenty of time to turn things around and stay at this level if thats what the board want!

Agree with that Adrian, especially with the games / opponents we have in December, it'll be a quick learning curve for Scott. Then again we should have (on paper) smashed through October with the opponents on paper and look how that turned out. You never know, but if we can beat Concord and hopefully win in the trophy, that'll be a decent December, anything else is a bonus IMO.

I'm not expecting anything from this game.

Ebbsfleet are going for the title and we are struggling with important players missing through suspension or injury.

Good to get another defender in but with Ben Harris now gone we really are struggling in the striker department.

Two young players on loan and Imran Kayani is not a strike force that will keep us in this division.

At his age Elliott Benyon needs to be over his injuries and 100% fit and so far since coming to the club he hasn't got off the ground and personally I don't think it will happen.

Although it's good to get another defender in albeit another young player untried at this level we really are desperate for more fire power.

I agree with RR that our striking department isn’t as strong as I’d want. Unless you have inside knowledge of impending riches bestowing upon our club what makes you so sure we’ll stay up? December is a very tough month and I think points are going to be very hard to attain. Come January we could be in a relegation spot. If we are then I think the club needs to either find some investment to sign the necessary players to give us a good chance of staying up or be honest and say there is nothing in the pot and we just have to work with what we have and hope!

Listened to the game on Kent radio.

Considering our squad is decimated it sounded like a brave backs to the wall performance against the champions elect.

And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse Joe Dandy picked up an injury just before half time and had to be substituted.

With Concord winning today, Tuesday's game is looking like a massive 3 points to be won.

Ok, i'll go for a 4-0 win for Ebbsfleet.

Well Reading Rebel you were half right with the scoreline,it being 2-0 rather than 4-0. That's a result in itself, as I thought like you that Ebbsfleet would score more.

Have I read it right that George Wells didn't play either? If so 2-0 isn't too bad really. Who expected Slough to get anything from this game?

All the details on his cv say that Luca Woodhouse is a central midfielder so bit worrying that the information given on him is that he is a 'center back/left back/left wing back'.

In the pre match interview Scott Davies said that George Wells reported in sick with Flu.

It certainly sounded like a backs to the wall performance with, at the last count, Ebbsfleet having at least 15 corners to our 2 with Rhys Forster having a blinder making several top saves.

Wasn’t there but just going by the Twitter updates it seems we did well to keep it to just 2 goals and have Rhys to thank for some top saves. Nothing unexpected and had we lost 4 or 5 nil no one would have been surprised. For anyone who went did we create anything or was it just them attacking and keeping possession? With Concord winning, Tuesday night really is at minimum a ‘don’t lose’ match. We’re also having terribly bad luck with injuries to what is an already small squad.

Slough where very disciplined, managing the score line (goal difference) and everyone worked very hard.  We had a few chances but for sure our box was the busier, clearance of the line, bodies thrown in the way of shots and Rhys pulling of some decent saves.   A lot of teams will go their and come away with a worse scoreline.

Personally very heartened by the scoreline given how ravaged the line-up was. Rhys played well for sure but to a man the team worked so hard for each other and stuck to their roles very well. Only real sniffs at goal fell to Aaron and on another day we might have sneaked an undeserved lead at halftime. The new man, Luca, fitted in well. Overall all, against the league leaders, a full time team we acquitted ourselves well. I am more hopeful.

How did we line up and what position did Luca play?
