Statement on club forum on 12/12/22

We are aware of recent speculation regarding potential new outside investment in the club.

Over the past few months, the board has been actively involved in discussions with several consortia over the potential for investment and/or a change in ownership in the club.
Given the highly sensitive and confidential nature of these discussions - and the fact that things can change very quickly even when close to completing a deal - we have not been able to be as forthcoming as our supporters would like.

At the present time we can confirm that we are in continued negotiations with a consortium regarding a potential takeover of the club. Subject to a satisfactory conclusion, we hope to share more information very soon and, in the meantime ask our supporters for their continued patience and trust.

We would like to reiterate that, as not only the current custodians but also supporters of the club, we have its best interests at heart. We are therefore striving to achieve the best possible outcome for the club and have been working tirelessly to that end.

------

So where are we now?

"We hope to share more information very soon", So it is now 12th Jan 2023 - a month further on and no more formal statements.

However, "Given the highly sensitive and confidential nature of these discussions" but there have been numerous leaks reported on here by board members to persons at training etc.

So how much more "continued patience and trust" are the fans expected to give?

Have the negotiations fallen through, are there new people interested, is the money that is needed just not there, or have more skeletons come out of the closet?

Completely get what you are saying as I've posted on here with a view to try and help calm any worries or fears about the future but just to clarify it wasn't a board member who spoke to me at training, some of them have taken a pounding at times so its only fair I make that clear.

I've been around local football for nearly 49 years and know people everywhere that are involved in all levels at dozens of different clubs, Academy's and in different roles, it was one of those people who gave me an update and from previous experience and conversations I have no reason to doubt them.

So who told them?

Or was one of them the interested party?

Maybe the reality of owning/funding a football club is kicking in.

I would have thought that the board would be looking to ensure that whoever comes in has enough cash to fund the club for several seasons at least.

You would have to be looking for a backer to be putting in at least £100k a year.  So the board would want to see funds of £200k to £300k on the table that are tangible and not just empty promises.

It is one thing saying that you want to take over a club, it is another thing having the money in your pocket and transfering it to the club, even the multi millionaire Martyn Deaner at times found it hard to find the cash, and even harder when he had "invested" a large lump and could see no return, let alone break even, and the future was just a bottomless money pit.

You have to be sitting on either multi million pounds, or have a business which is guaranteed to be making a very healthy profit to be able to take that amount of money from.

From the accounts (companies house) of one of the interested parties they do not have this money, so will need to pull in an investor to provide the cash.

Maybe this is why the talks have stagnated?

This is all speculation.
