V St Albans City 5th November

Never a red card (have seen footage), feel for the whole team and management team after yesterday efforts.

Theres a massive difference between wanting to win the ball and attempting to injure a player intentionally, Hollis wins the ball first he just went in hungrier and had control of his body, no studs showing, his foot low and one footed imo.

Even spoke to one of their players who was taking a drink on the side where I was whilst all this was going on and he said yellow card!

The St Albans bench, players and player acting injured on the floor are fully accountable imo for getting Hollis sent off and it was in sheer despreation as they knew they had a game on their hands.

Ref lost control of this game and was very inconsistent as where his assistants.

Wanted to wait to see the highlights on YT before commenting fully on the game to make sure what I thought I knew I did. Having now seen them, that is one of the worst refereeing decisions I've seen all season (if not the worst). Hollis is fully in control, 1 footed, wins the ball as clean as a whistle and is never a red card in a million years.

The referee in general was diabolical all game, we call them "Italian" fouls when the player blatantly stops a counter attack knowing full well they will get a yellow card to allow the team to regroup, both the St Albans #18 in the first half and Lee Togwell in the 2nd did those fouls and neither was booked.

A disgrace of an officiating performance and one that should show this person is not capable to referee anywhere close to our standard.

As for the rest of the game, I think even with 10 men and the result, we were by far the better team throughout. But for a MoM performance from their keeper we could have won that comfortably with the saves he made. Unfortunately you come up against those types of performances some times and that's one of those things.

To be far again to Lench (as my "focus" player😄 at the moment) I thought when he came on he performed very well and the set up for the goal was excellent. That's the last twice since I called him out he has performed very well so I hope he has turned a corner.

I was very pleased to see Jon's interview in regards to Arnold and that we will be trying to extend his loan as I think he is a Slough type player (100% effort as seen in the last minute chasing the length of the pitch to try and help defend the final goal on the break) and gives us something different to Ben and Elliott. Pleased to see Elliott back on the pitch and hopefully we can start to convert some of the numerous chances we are making into some goals.

I thought to man yesterday every player showed a massive amount of character in the face of adversity and I'm sure if those types of performances continue, we will soon see a turn around in fortunes.

Thought it might be a red at the time but was quite far from the incident but having had a good look at the video I'd say not even worthy of a yellow.

Mark, it wasn't even a foul. Should have been a Slough throw on. Thought it at the time, still think it now.

I’m probably going to be in the minority but from my view, row 3 in the stand right in front of the tackle, I thought it was a red card. Hollis gets the ball, no question, but in my opinion the force and angle of his foot on the follow through, looked like a potential leg breaker to me. Thankfully the player wasn’t seriously hurt but that’s by the by, I think people were too fixated on Guy getting the ball first, it’s judged on if it was dangerous play and I think it was.

A shame as it was shaping up nicely into a good performance and the effort with ten was commendable.

Paxton - what do you think having seen the highlights?

Yep some questionable defending of late despite our goalie being top notch.

Ok I'm going to say it....Wellsy isn't the player he once was.

Amazing when different people look at the game as I actually have him up there as one of our players of the season so far🤣.

I will conseed he has been caught out a few times for goals this year, but he is, IMO, still a fantastic footballer and could, depending on how things go, be the future of our centreback pairing.

I'll be honest and say it looked worse at the time from my lower down view than on the replay, so I can still understand from that perspective why the ref may have deemed it a red. I've changed my mind to borderline rather than definite!

I think when it comes to Wellsy it depends on what you look for in a defender.

He is definitely a very skillful player who is better going forward than defending, but aren't most full backs like that these days?

As I said before his main negative is that he lacks a bit of pace but again if he was quick imo he would be good enough to be at a league club.

100% agree. With this end of the non-league (as opposed to step 4/5/6) you are always going to have the "almost complete" player in most cases. The one that always springs to mind for me (and topical from yesterday) was Jack Turner. If he had controlled his box more and been 3/4 inches taller he would have easily made it in the pro game.

I like Wells forward thought at full back and more recently, I like his heading and command of the centreback spot as well. All round good player IMO and we are lucky to have him at Slough.

One footed, connecting cleanly with the ball with the side of his foot and of course the obligatory affected player (Jeffers) making a meal of it to get a player sent off.

A weak ref out of his depth.

That red card has to be rescinded.

I'm afraid it came as no surprise to me to read that it's not been quashed.
