Since Worthing ended our FA Cup hopes this year  the pre and early season hype around them has dissipated  Since that game they  have played  7 more winning just1 and that was against DH yesterday whose GD is the only thing keeping them out of the relegation group This is surely a game where we can end the current poor run and starting clocking up points again.

Yes, back to winning ways last night after 3 draws and 3 defeats losing by the odd goal each time.

Really tough game with the run we're on.

Adrian, I don't think anyone is talking up the opposition just stating the facts.

All games in this league can be tough but Worthing cant buy a home win Theyve managed just 1 home league win all season thats why I think we can end our poor run with this game   just introducing a bit of fact related positivity

A bit of a roller coaster of a game being 1-0 down to another penalty and dragging ourselves back into the game to take a 2-1 lead unfortunately we conceded the equalizer to what sounded like a poorly defended corner.

I think most supporters would have taken a point before the game and has put a stop to our losing run so we have to be pleased with a point.

I went to my first match back in the late 1960's (at Wembley it was),and I must have been to thousands of games since then, but I still saw something  yesterday that I hadn't seen with my own eyes  at any match previously.

I'd be very surprised if this hasn't been  commented on somewhere that I haven't seen, but nothing was said about it on the coach coming back after the game, there is nothing on our match twitter feed about it and our official match report doesn't talk about it either.

Josh scored our second goal, and was then booked before the game restarted.

Why ?

I think I am correct in my thinking  because as Josh walked off the pitch alongside Elliot Benyon and about to disappear down the tunnel after the final whistle, I'm pretty sure I heard Josh say to Elliot " Yeah, the ref booked me for it".

Lenchy had hit a great shot from outside the box which rebounded off the right hand post across the face of the goal, to Josh who was about 6 or 7 yards out and swept it in with his left foot.

Cue celebrations.

Josh ran to the touchline near the corner flag, which was on the opposite side of the ground to where the dug outs with all the managers and subs etc were situated.

Leaning up against the pitch surrounding barrier like any normal fans were Elliot Benyon in his Slough Town tracksuit and an Aaron Kuhl in his civvies after his earlier injury substitution.

Elliot was drinking a beer from a pint plastic cup, and when Josh came over to him celebrating, Josh grabbed the plastic pint glass from Elliot and took a couple of gulps.

More players came over celebrating , nothing more happened and then I waited for the match to restart.

There was a delay I thought because Ben was sat down on the pitch, and we seemed to be making a substitution, but then I noticed a few Slough players talking with the referee near the touchline under the main stand.

It looked like someone had been given a yellow card, and I'm guessing Josh got booked for nicking Elliot's drink !

If Elliot had had a non alcoholic beverage would that have avoided the booking?

Guess we'll never know.

I heard the Worthing managers post match interview last night, and I do wonder if he saw the same game I did.

From his description it sounded like it was The Alamo, wave after wave of attacks on our goal throughout the entire match.

Yes, they scored 2 goals and another day it could have been 4 or 5, but we also scored 2 goals and on another day we too could have scored 4 or 5.

I thought it was an entertaining end to end game, with both teams trying to earn the 3pts right up to the final whistle.

I wondered who would be in goal for Worthing.

Their manager had hinted in an interview a day or two before yesterdays  game that their first choice goalie was doubtful with a knock from their Tuesday night match v. Dulwich, and they might have to bring somebody in.

Their first choice goalie didn't make it, and I wasn't impressed with the bloke who took his place.

I thought he played like he was Bambi caught in a cars headlights.

When he came charging out of his goal early on and took out Ben, I thought at the time that there was no way that he was going to get to the bouncing ball before Ben did.

Really bad judgement I thought, and he was very lucky not to get sent off.

He picked the ball out of his net twice, but apart from that sadly I don't recall him having to make a save in the game.

I think that highlights that although we had great opportunities to score during the game, our shooting/heading was again not on target.

In contrast I thought Rhys again had a great game for us, looking very assured in goal.

Once more he made 2 or 3 fantastic saves.

It would be nice though if he didn't have to make fantastic saves every game, and for once have a nice quiet game where all he has to deal with is back passes.

Finally, did anyone else notice that Worthing had a player called Adam Adam ?

Most people I'm sure know that Gary Neville's dad was called Neville Neville, but apart from the character Major Major in the book "Catch 22", I've never come across this before.

Adam Adam ?

Poor sod.

I hope his middle name isn't Adam too.

Excellent post again HH!

We may not have talked about it but we certainly knew  Our match report shows both fullbacks with yellow cards!  Worthing were also missing their captain serving the third of a three match suspension The scorer of their first goal is starting a three match suspension on Tuesday for punching a DH player in their previous game.

On the bit about Josh getting booked, I doubt it was for taking a couple of glugs of alcohol, besides how would the ref know it was alcohol and not a non alcoholic drink? more likely that Josh left the field of play and consumed a drink without the refs permission?

On the bit where you say about the Worthing keeper:

'He picked the ball out of his net twice, but apart from that sadly I don't recall him having to make a save in the game.

I think that highlights that although we had great opportunities to score during the game, our shooting/heading was again not on target'

Unfortunately this seems to be a recurring theme this season.

Possible reasons from the laws of the game:

Celebration of a goal

Players can celebrate when a goal is scored, but the celebration must not be excessive; choreographed celebrations are not encouraged and must not cause excessive time-wasting. Leaving the field of play to celebrate a goal is not a cautionable offence but players should return as soon as possible. A player must be cautioned, even if the goal is disallowed, for:

• climbing onto a perimeter fence and/or approaching the spectators in a manner which causes safety and/or security issues

• acting in a provocative, derisory or inflammatory way

• covering the head or face with a mask or other similar item

• removing the shirt or covering the head with the shirt

or

Cautions for unsporting behaviour

• shows a lack of respect for the game

I was at the game and Josh was booked for having a drink.

The fussy linesman raised his flag to get his daddies ( sorry ref ) attention and guess he told him that he had witnessed the most horrific thing to happen on a football field. The ref then called over Josh and booked him.

I was at the time shouting my head off at the ref and lino for being so stupid or something like that and people around me were asking why so I told them. Elliot and Aaron moved around to us behind the goal and Elliot said that Josh was booked for having a drink.

On more serious note sounds like Aaron will be out for sometime, huge loss.
