Excellent news that Rhys has committed to the Rebels for the remainder of the season.

Rhys has only played 4 league games and 3 friendlies for us but has shown a lot of promise in those games.

It's early days but as long as he continues to progress I'm sure he will justify the faith our managers have put in him.

I have to say that my reaction to the news announced today that Rhys is going to be our new number one was one of surprise.

Not that I'm unhappy about the announcement, far from it, but I'm surprised that the the news seems to suggest that there was some doubt about whether this was going to be the case or not.

I would guess that most Rebels fans like myself assumed when we heard the news last week that Northy left us under a "mutually agreed" decision, that Rhys was  a cast iron certainty to take his place in the side.

If we are announcing today that Rhys has decided to stay with us, that suggests to me that we let Northy go last week without being 100% sure who was going to take his place.

And if the club were  100%  confident that Rhys would be our new number one, why release a news story today which seems to suggest otherwise?

Seems a non-story to me.

Read it the same way - why let one go, if the other is not confirmed?

Have to say I was surprised about this news as well.

I thought Rhys had already committed for the season which allowed Jon North to depart.

Obviously this had been agreed, however until the paperwork was ratified we had actually only mentioned Northy going.

However you have to realise that whilst you all knew this would be the case, players like to be able to have something written about them, so that people who don’t know can congratulate them.

It might be a non story for some of you, however it is not for him.

It's funny, as I actually saw this the other way around.

Putting my feelings about North to 1 side, I know he was well liked with the fans, the players and overall in the dressing room. In addition, most people associated with the club thought he was a great goalkeeper.

Thus the announcement of him leaving was a "big" one, so showing him the respect of having a week or so (helped by our lack of fixture) for people to comment etc and be aware he has gone was why the club waited.

Couple that up with everything being sorted with Rhys and then announcing that this week seems like exactly they way to do it and credit to the club and the social media team for this approach.

Ok enough about goalies, where are with this 7 day approach for the striker?

The last word was that he had other options to consider.

Either in demand or his agent is busy touting him around.

I wouldn’t give him too long to decide, as you want a player who really wants to play for the club instead of pimpimg himself out to the highest bidders.
