Dover A 10th Sept Match Thread

My only visit to Crabble was on my 13th birthday on 14th July 1962.

It wasn't a very good summer. I seem to recall that play began after lunch.

A memorable moment was the debut of Mike Denness. He was l-b-w b Laker 0.

Laker finished with match figures of 7-73 and 6-86 on the turning pitch.

Set 168 to win, Essex finished on 138-7 as the rain affected match ended in a draw.

Obviously I will be looking for more than a draw this 10th September but Andy Hessenthaler is a very good manager.

  • Irishadrian changed the title to Dover A 10th Sept Match Thread

A superficial glance at relegated Dovers early record might suggest they've started poorly 7 points from 7games but 6 of their points have come from 2 home wins where they didn't concede and they been beaten by top two Ebbsfleet and Havant  I think we must bring our A game to get anything from this one

  • 1 month later...

So it's now being played next Saturday 15th October with  a 3 pm kick-off.

Don't forget that the Crabble Athletic Ground is a very attractive one (see attached) and situated in the village of River.

No Dover Athletic FC Radio that I can find, not on BBC radio Kent either, so it looks like it is the narrow mindedness of their chairman Jim Parmenter which is not allowing it.

Also noticed that their website is not showing entry fees, but going by their season ticket prices of £331 it looks like gate prices will be high.

That with the original game planned to be played earlier due to a "function" booking - it looks like Dover are only in it for the money, and football a poor second, no wonder they are in trouble.

I had considered going when I found out that it was not on the radio, but looking at what Jim and Dover are up to I will stay at home and keep my money in my pocket.

And that is why they are not advertising it.

Along with no post match food for the players Dover are a club run by a shyster of an owner.

Reading Rebel, don't overlook the reasons behind this as Dover Athletic are trying to recover from :-

"Dover Athletic have lost their appeal against a £40,000 fine and 12-point deduction.

The club were punished by the National League for failure to fulfil four fixtures between February 16 and 27 2021.

They appealed to the FA but their case has been thrown out and they must also pay £1,600 costs.

Dover, cash-strapped with fans unable to attend games due to the Covid pandemic, stopped playing and furloughed management and players while the rest of the division carried on.

Their 2020/21 record was later expunged.

After government grants ran out, they were unwilling to take on loans, with chairman Jim Parmenter arguing it was against the league’s own rules.

The National League took a dim view of Dover’s actions, hitting them with a fine and a 12-point deduction for the 2021/2 season."

In the great scheme of things has that got anything to do with not providing after match food for the players?

And what about not letting clubs broadcast matches live?

I would suggest this has nothing to do with being fined by the league.

On top of these prices you can opt for the Premium Matchday Ex perience for just £28   A butler controlled 3 course meal A wide screen TV recording the match so you can turn  your back on the live game and watch it on TV Free tea coffee and soft drinks but a paid bar A free team sheet

They urge prompt booking as they can only accomodate 64 Further down though  they remind you that if your not a ST holder you have to pay for your category of entry!!@

SG, dont forget that the NL also fined us for protecting the players and staff!

But we dont try and rip fans off like Dover.

I understood our fine was £8,000 and Dover Athletic's £40,000 but the latter were also disadvantaged in National League by having a 79 miles journey to London before they started nearly all of their away trips with Bromley, Dagenham & Redbridge, Southend United and Woking being the nearest.

So if you are a  normal price fan this experience will cost you £44 plus the cost of all alcohol drinks you have!
