Strange defensive line up with Rhys Forster in goal for the absent Jon North, Josh Jackman at left back, Wellsy alongside Guy and Scott Davies in the right back position.

Turgid first half where both teams could hardly string a couple of passes together and not a shot on target in sight.

Second half got marginally better as the half went on with Hampton taking the lead following a simple diagonal ball which Scott Davies, in the right back position, failed to deal with.

After some much needed substitutions we sprung into life with Wellsy and young Imran scoring with two headed goals from excellent crosses into the box to give us the points when a defeat was looking the most likely outcome.

On the day we managed to get away with a re-shuffled back line but against a better side than Hampton we won't be so fortunate.

Having lost Edon Pruti and worryingly Ben Harris coming off yesterday with an injury our squad is looking a bit on the thin side so hopefully much needed reinforcements are in the pipeline.

Rhys is an upcoming goalie who’s worked so hard to get where he is, thought he was excellent on the day! George had the game of his life also with the goal and the set up, we won the game not playing well, keep the faith!

I'm certainly not questioning whether Rhys deserved to be goal just that Jon North was announced as being in the match day squad but wasn't at the game.

Northy was unable to play due to a work commitment that we were aware of in the summer, which is why we brought Rhys in and gave him game time in pre-season.

We weren’t prepared to let Hampton know in advance (via our team news) that our regular keeper was missing so kept this quiet.

A major player is first name on the team sheet, was Edon always that? No he was not!

I have no idea if he was the first name the managers put on the team sheet each week, but the record does show that Edon Pruti signed for Slough at the end of January & between him signing & the end of last season the Club had 19 matches & he played in all 19 of them, making a sub appearance in his first match & starting in the other 18.

Other than Jonathan North I don’t think anyone else played in all those.

Pretty impressive in my opinion for a lad who only turned 20 in April.

What on earth has that got to do with anything???

Brentford obviously saw potential, that does not mean he was a major player for us at all…

'A Major player is first name on the team sheet'

I would consider Benyon, Pruti, Harris, Hunt, Jackman, Togwell and Kuhl, all major players for us and all have been on the subs bench this season.

May not have been the best game overall for many and frustration shown by both benches in flight and post match., H&R coaching staff had a big inquest after the game in their dugout with all involved.  McCann seemed really down after and as per his post match said he felt let down by the players!

I think the Slough squad is still capable of a play off place.

I also believe many clubs in the league would love additional players but with the economics we find ourselves in even running floodlights could cause a problem for some in the future, budgets are a complete disaster for a lot of clubs unless they are spending like they don't care or have that sugar daddy at the realm.  My ethos would be do not spend what you haven't got.

Ref the back 4 yesterday make shift maybe but all capable of playing those rolls imo.

Ref Edon I have said this before Dandy is the better younger CB imo, that said a loss for the team.

TBH I haven't seen enough of Joe Dandy at CB to pass an opinion as to whether I think he's better than Pruti.

I don't know the figures off hand but he's possibly been played at RB as much as CB since he's been with us.

IMO Pruti looked the taller more natural header of the ball than Joe Dandy.

Just to give some input on this as you all know we read the forum and contribute. Edon is a great prospect and because of his profile (size and left footed) he is one that a club would be willing to take a chance on, and that is why Brentford have taken him for their development team, it might be a great move for him, and he could really push on with the full time training etc, or he could find himself out of contract at the end of the season, and find himself back in non league,  however is in his hands, and as a really good lad we want to see him do really well not only for himself, but also for the club point of view, and he has the tools in the locker to do so.

Our view is when he came in first 5 games he was excellent, however like with a lot of young players (especially defenders) we started to notice some bits where he would have to improve on, timing in the air, and also awareness of movement in and around him, which we talked to him about and tried to work with him.

We were in a position that we did not have lots of centre half options back end of the season so he ended up playing the games (which is a good thing for him) , however we got punished at times with some mistakes, and other times he did really well (again what you would expect when throwing a young centre half in).

That being said he did not have his best pre season (which again we discussed with him) , and started the first game a little by default due to Guy injury and Josh being unavailable, as on pre season form if everyone was fit and available he would not have started.

The first game against Havant he really struggled against Jason Prior and that was why he found himself out the team for the next two games, but again due to some injury and unavailability he found himself back in the team against Dulwich, and he was much better, and again against Cheshunt he was solid and deserved to keep his place.

In terms of Joe and Edon they are different centre backs, and not worth comparing, they both have different qualities, Joe we feel is really suited to non league, and I think he will be a really top player for us.

People mention signing players, well we have Birdy coming back to fitness now, who gives us a new option (and who had been our best defender prior to his injury) will he get back to where he was, only time will tell, we have Joe a week to 10 days away max, and we also have Togs who has been playing centre half for us for a while now.

Wellsy was absolutely top draw Saturday and when you actually look at him physically has all the attributes to be a centre half.

In reality we are not in bad shape at all, we have won 3 of our last 4 games, two of which where we have come from behind (something we only did twice in all of last season) which shows character, and also when we had not played that well (again winning when not at your best is a good trait to have as a team).

People talk about makeshift defence, yes in reality on paper it looks like that, however Josh has probably played 15-20 games for us in that position if not more (and never let us down), and Scott Davies has played right back for Ireland u21s and has actually played in that position in our 3 wins, so whilst not what you would class as usual, all perfectly capable in the roles that they played.

As a club our attendances are down, and with a cost of living crisis going on, we will also not go out and spend money that the club does not have.

Agree with most of the things you've said here, Neil but there are two minor points I would like to make.

Firstly I think you're over egging Ryan Bird's defending by saying he was our best defender before injury. I agree he proved to be very useful to our defence, and I'm hopeful he will do well this time around[now Edon has left] but to say he was our best defender is 'laying it on a bit thick' in my book ! ?

The other point I wanted to mention, was that I found it strange that you would come down heavy on Edon about his marking of Jason Prior, when Prior is a forward that regularly gives plenty of other mainstay experienced centre halves in our league, a torrid time. Sounds a bit harsh on the merits of Edon.

To me, Edon Pruti was a shrewd signing by Unders and yourself but he came after we had lost Guy Hollis to Havant. Edon proved his mettle but accomodating Guy and Edon together this season was always going to be a tough ask. Neither are great footballing centre halves ie comfortable with bringing the ball out from the back.

With Edon now gone that's one problem you managers don't need to worry about. I saw the logic of trying George Wells there last weekend but won't his marauding runs forward from the left flank be a greater miss? Especially as he weighs in with shots, and goals !

I agree that Joe Dandy and Edon Pruti are different types of centre halves. To me Edon Pruti has the edge over Joe for the rigours of the Conference South but Joe to me offers versatility and has lots of promise and truth be told looks a better footballer on the ball than Edon. He is certainly well worth a place in this season's Slough squad. Why fans want to rush to get Joe into one of our centre back slots is beyond me,though. The season isn't a sprint, the Slough squad have plenty of options and adaptibility in the ranks.Lee Togwell and Ryan Bird alongside Guy might be a better bet. Whatever, the defence can be sorted fairly easily, without bringing in anyone from outside the squad imo .

The bigger problems to me are up front but so far we've got by with what we have, in player/squad terms, and I have Slough 3 points better off than I thought the team would have after these 7 games,so regardless of mixed results I think Slough are more than holding their own currently. I would just like to get to see a Slough game soon !

I must be seeing a different game.

I think two of Edon's biggest strengths are his heading and his ability to bring the ball out of defense.

It's ok saying we don't need to bring in another center back but so far this season, especially recently, we've been leaking poorly defended goals for fun.

You obviously don't have to answer it 3spirit if it's personal but what's stopping you coming to watch a Slough game?

To be fair you've seen a lot more games than I have in recent seasons, RR,and taking into account my bad memory I may be underselling Edon's qualities, a little.

On the question of what is stopping me coming to Slough games I have several reasons. The biggest one is financial, as my priorities have had to change, now that I've been forced into early retirement through ill health.

I did bump into a die hard regular Rebels fan in the supermarket on Tuesday morning and he egged me on a bit to come to the Taunton home evening match which I truly contemplated but I started to feel out of sorts when I got home and together with it getting dark and rainy that put me off from coming.

Given that Slough haven't exactly lit the touchpaper with forward flair signings this season, that also has had a negative impact on me desperately wanting to attend matches but it certainly ISN'T the main reason for not attending.  I've just got out of the habit of watching football matches live, so much so that I've just become comfortable with being a lightweight, fair weather fan !  ?

Today's FA CUP game looks a good one on paper. I'm keen on seeing what Worthing are like, and I intend to come along for my first game of the season. Hope to see you there.

Appreciate your reply 3spirit and the reasons why you don't attend on a regular basis.

Look forward to seeing you at the match today in 'cosy corner' ?
