This should be an interesting affair at the Nolan Oils Ground, the Club's missed meeting each other in the SSML and I don't believe have ever locked horns competitively. See the match programme:

Just to say I won't be around until about 10.00pm to post the resuIts, maybe Karen can do the honours. Can't wait to hear what sort of reception Fergus Moore gets at Silver JubiIee park ?.

August 27th.  FA Vase Preliminary Round.  Edgware & Kingsbury v Leverstock Green, 2-2 (0-0), (E&K p4-2).

Despite the build-up, and the potential, this was an oddly low-key encounter in front of a disappointingly small crowd, (41).  Both sides had played 120 minutes midweek, and so started at little more than half-pace, and other than some neat sideways passing, and a couple of wayward shots, almost nothing of any consequence happened in the first half.

After the interval, LG came out like a train, and goals from Kyeremeh and Beckwith on 45 and 46 seemed to have the game won.  Curiously though, LG then backed off, and gave the midfield to E&K.  E&K, and in particular the talented no 11, McGettigan, took full advantage, and goals from him on 56 and 57 had the sides level, with all to play for.  Even curiouser though, with both the slope and the momentum in their favour, E&K then also chose to back off, and the game just meandered for a while and then eventually petered out.  I'm sure the players won't agree, but from this relatively neutral spectator's point of view, it was almost as if both sides had decided to settle for the draw with thirty minutes still to play.

As I said, most curious.  On then to penalties, and with LG missing their first two, it was E&K who go through, to be 'rewarded' with a trip to Risborough Rangers.

So, six unbeaten for E&K, five of which, really, they could probably have lost.  Will London Lions be so accommodating on Monday ?  I suspect not, but we shall see...

August 27th.  FA Vase Preliminary Round.  Edgware & Kingsbury v Leverstock Green, 2-2 (0-0), (E&K p4-2).

Fergus Moore, Scott McGleish, and all of Leverstock Green's former Edgware players were greeted warmly and generously by all at SJP, with lots of friendly exchanges, hugs and banter regarding times gone by.  I expected nothing less.

FA Vase First Qualifying Round

Northampton ON Chenecks 7 Buckingham Athletic 0 (at Buckingham Athletic)

A groundhopper from another Forum was at Stratford FieIds:

FA Vase - Stratford Fields - new tick
Northampton ON Chenecks 7(4) Buckingham Athletic 0(0)
Admission: £6 Paper available, Attendance 31
Fixture reversed (I assume due to cricket?), this pitted SSM1 rivals against one another. Pretty much as one-sided a contest as the score would suggest. Buckingham tried to play football but were limited in their ability; no mobility or any nous to create space against a big, mobile and pressing opposition. Time and time again, they faffed about with short passes before a lump upfield invited another bout of attacks from Chenecks. I was quite impressed by the latter, quick and dominant in the air, they fashioned loads of openings. They scored on 2, 7, 29(p), 39, 46, 52 and 87. They also missed several close-in headers and brought a stunning diving save from Buckingham's keeper. It could easily have been double figures. It seems Buckingham have won two of their four games so far in the League so maybe this was an off day.
Stratford Fields is a public park but the pitch is fenced in, fully railed and has a bespoke block and corrugated seated stand with bench seats behind which are the changing rooms. A small but tidy social club is at one end (outside the wire so to speak) with a verandah and a small car park.
Fluent journey there and back via Swindon/A420/Bicester and home in just short of 2hrs for the 77 miles.

Sunday 28 August
FA Vase First Qualifying Round
May & Baker Eastbrook Community 2 Stotfold 2 (May & Baker Eastbrook Community win 4-2 on pens)

A groundhopper from another Forum was present, Brett DonneIIy won't be happy exiting the FA Vase to Step 6 May & Baker Eastbrook Community:

May & Baker 2 (4 pens) v (2 pens) 2 Stotfold - FA Vase Extra Preliminary Round.
New glossy design prog, double the price but printing is an expensive task - 20 pages @ £2.00. Admission £3.00 (c) - Att. approx. 90.

Having seen Stotfold lose in the FA Cup four days earlier but play their role in an absorbing contest, it was difficult not to have a modicum of sympathy with the visitors after they exited the Vase on penalties. On this occasion they lacked the pace in their counter attacks but were still superior in terms of ability to the hosts, however M&B kept an interest in the game, secured a late equaliser and successfully converted all four of their taken penalties.
As was the case the previous Wednesday, Kade Bagge frequently impressed on the right flank, on occasion he strayed over to the opposite wing, however it is clear that he is far stronger on the right. Mason Spence's pace was also noticeable and he could have given the visitors an early lead. Initially he rode over a scythe of a challenge that if contact had been made would have caused Spence discomfort, but with a sight of goal he poked wide of the far post. The visitors did take a deserved lead when a cross from the right by Sam Nicholls was glanced into the far corner by the head of Spence. Plenty of opportunities for the lead for the visitors to be doubled but Jack Riddell made a couple of important saves and when he was beaten as was the case when Joe Sutton's inswinging cross beat the M&B keeper Trevor Harding was perfectly placed to head off of the line.
For most of the first half there was little in the way of attacking threat from M&B but as the half progressed they pushed forward more effectively with the pace of Jayden Silcott-Brown and Idris Aminu unsettling. Liam Gooch in the Stotfold goal did well to block a shot from the former, but then from this angle he was slightly at fault diving over Aminu's shot which levelled the scores. As an aside on both occasions that Aminu has been seen this season, he gives the distinct impression that his tenure at Level 6 will be short as his pace and ability give the impression that he would be comfortable playing at a higher level.
All square at half time but with the visitors having the better of play and this was maintained during the second period, however the visitors inability to establish a two goal advantage meant that there was the collective belief with M&B that they were always capable of levelling. The only occasion when they looked as if they were going to take the lead was when Silcott-Brown's powerful drive was well saved by Gooch. However it was not long before Stotfold re-establish their advantage, a header from Spence came back off of the woodwork and soon after Stotfold deservedly retook the lead when a long cross from Bagge was met at the back post by a header from Joe Sutton which despite Riddell getting a firm hand only helped the ball into the roof of the net.
Given the clear advantage that the visitors had at this stage, Sutton's goal was expected to be the decisive moment. The problem for Stotfold that the persistence of the hosts was such that their threat was never extinguished. There were big shouts for a penalty after a misunderstanding between Gooch and Daniel Sears let in Harding who was seemingly brought down but the referee was adamant at not awarding a penalty. The man in black was more convinced into awarding a spot kick when Aminu running into the Stotfold area was clumsily brought down by Joe Ryan. Abidemi Lamina converted the penalty which beat Gooch for accuracy rather than pace. No further chances and the outcome was decided by penalties. All of M&B's spot kicks found the net with Gooch not close to any of the efforts. Contrast with the Stotfold penalties taken by Sutton and Codi-Lee Spavins which were too close to Riddell who on both occasion saved without undue difficulty. For their win, M&B have a home tie against Colney Heath whose management were evident watching proceedings. Could be an interesting scenario arising on the weekend of the next round which coincides with a round of Trophy matches as Aveley already have a scheduled league game and Grays could be at home in the Trophy. One of the pitfalls of a three way groundshare and may lead to two further trips to Parkside either side of a Saturday day out that unless something goes very very wrong will not be made to anywhere quite as close.
Pleasant Sunday strolls in both direction noticing once again the early leaf fall and the coating of acorns under- neath Thurrock's oak trees, never seen this during August. Indoors at 16.35.

A groundhopper from another Forum was present

Burton Park Wanderers 0 Penn & Tylers Green 1
FA Vase First Qualifying Round. Admission £5. Tea £1. Didn't buy prog. Att: 113.
The start of a three-day road trip which was going so well until I hit the M11 closure which was caused by the A14 closure. That held me up for an hour and required a diversion via the A428 and A1, and a stop at the awful Brampton Hut Services rather than the planned Cambridge services. Still got there in plenty of time.
Finally got to tick this ground off - I'd been expecting to do it for a Kettering game but easier and cheaper to do it for a Burton game. Not much sign of Burton's presence here among all the Kettering branding although they do have their own snack bar behind the end stand. I actually quite like the ground, the end stand shows how even a kit seated stand can look good with a decent fascia board. There is open terracing either side of this stand and some on the far side and the other end has a sizable metal covered terrace unit that fills almost the entire end. Then you have the ramshackle delight of the main stand, all wooden flooring, corrugated iron, supporting pillars all over the place and minimal legroom. I would imagine this isn't the most user-friendly ground for Kettering-sized crowds, but ideal for Burton's crowds.
The game was a pretty even encounter and it was decided in the 34th minute from a corner. Burton omitted to put anyone on the far post and that is where the ball went - straight in without touching anyone. Plenty of chances for both sides, but a combination of poor finishing and great goalkeeping meant that there weren't any further goals.
After a trouble-free 2 hour journey, now holed up in a hotel in Hereford, ready for a bit of sightseeing and a first visit to Edgar Street tomorrow.
