Snow Joke - ESL Survey

Recommended Posts

How deep is the snow on each of the ESL pitches and which game will be on if any on Saturday?

Anyone know if the Brimobeu has a good covering of snow - I'm guessing at 3 - 4 inches of snow. Come on Coathy you live the closest is it deeper?

Town have invested in some coloured balls - We could really use them on a white pitch.

I can remember as a kid freezing my watsits off at an EFC match when there was a good snow covering on the pitch. Come on you oldies must have some snow stories?

Good idea about the coloured balls.

White lines under white snow isno joke though!

Better bring ice skates if it is cold or a swimming costume with flippers on Saturday if it thaws.

I wouln't worry about bringing football boots.

Yes they are playing Romford.

As our honourable chairman said, Southend area very icy although I think the ground will be soft by Saturday. The the rain and slush though will cause other problems at the more dodgy grounds.

I remember Romford playing Sailsbury in April 78, and the snow started about an hour before kick off covered the pitch in mins.

Game went ahead.

Does anybody remember Merthyr v Enfield in a FA Trophy replay at Penydaren Park.

ARE we sitting comfortably, then i shall begin.

After a welcome in the hillside, and a valley. Our band of footy players and supporters went forth, on to a picth that was beautiful. The sky was clear for the first period play, and had a nip in the air. The team called Enfield scored first from the much travelled one called Martin St Hilaire, scoring. As the cheering died down the team called Merthyr, it leveled the scoring.

So come Half time, with the scores level at 1-1, we do walk around the ground. As we do, this white stuff fell upon us, from a great height.

As the players returned unto the arena, one of scamps, says " what this stuff, we only play on grass ".

So after 82 minutes, the person in charge said " no more, in this white stuff ".

Then as the team from london came to thank the supporters, one person called Lord John of the Bailey, picks up this white stuff, rolls into a ball, and the biggest snowball fight started.

So the battle of Merthyr now is history.

And everybody lived happily ever after.

p.s southport jr we still had to goto school if it snowed or not.

Anyone else remember the snowball fight on Alvechurch station while we were waiting for our chartered train to take us back to Enfield, following an Amateur Cup game at Alvechurch? (Incidentally, this game was covered by a BBC film crew, with Cliff Michelmore as commentator, and highlights were shown on MOTD that evening!!)

Certainly remember being snowballed out of the covered end at Plough Lane when Romford played Wimbledon in an FA Cup tie many years ago. The game was played in a blizzard, with a good 4" of snow on the pitch even before the kick-off and the lines swept to leave deep trenches! At times, it was impossible to see beyone the half way line from behind the goal because of the falling snow. Oh, and to make matters more interesting, Romford played in white! Think Boro lost 0-3 - probably couldn't see each other!
