Unless I've missed something, it would appear that no SSML sides have entered the competition this season.  This is very disappointing -- one would have thought that Clubs like Sarratt and Bovingdon would think this a worthwhile competition to enter.  Perhaps the ex-Herts County Clubs consider the current Herts County sides too strong for them ?

A colleague at one of the Clubs told me over the phone.

And I don't have the complete answer to your second question, but I do know that if they get past Sungate, Sporting Hackney will be at home to either Runwell Sports or Sudbury Sports.

If that really is the case then no thread will be opened for the 2023/24 competition, as you say it is disappointing to put it mildly. Also what about 'standing dish' Old Bradwell United who regularly get to the latter stages.

I think maybe the case is for the Spartan teams is that it's an 18 team league this season, plus the other cup comps they're already in. Maybe they don't think they can fulfil every single fixture if they did enter the Anagrams. I remember Old Bradwell United having to play something crazy like 14 games in the last 4 or 5 weeks of the season because of the rain that cancelled many Non-League fixtures between December and March/April.

Munchkin - Was that by the SSML hierarchy, if so it's more surprising than disappointing, they have never objected before have they and the Anagram Records Trophy has been a nice competition for our Step 7 Club's to enter over many years.

As for me, I'm looking forward to a first-ever visit to Flitwick on the 25th.  Let's hope the weather gods treat us kindly.

Agamamnon3 - Yes, Sporting Hackney aren't having the best of it this season are they in the Essex Alliance League Senior Division and, as you say, an embarrassing 6-0 defeat to Essex Olympian League Premier Division Sungate in the Anagram Records Trophy First Round on Saturday 21 October, I assume Delaney was in attendance at The Drive in Ilford.

An interesting feature on the Anagram Records Trophy by The Cold End on his excellent Blog where he lists all the past Finals since the 1999/2000 campaign when Tring Athletic lifted the trophy in the competition's inaugural season, beating Bedmont Sports after extra time and penalties following a 1-1 stalemate, in a Final played at Arlesey Town's Hitchin Road on Saturday 13 May 2000. Also see an equally interesting feature from groundhopper The Wycombe Wanderer who attended the 2015/16 Final between London Lions and Springfield FC on Saturday 14 May 2016 at the Hertfordshire County FA Headquarters Ground in Letchworth Garden City:

Anagram Records Trophy, Round Two.  Flitwick Town v Belstone 0-4.  (HT 0-2).  (Att: 28).

Thank you.  Yes, a good day out on a cold, but delightfully sunny afternoon.

Two trains, (just under an hour), and a brisk twenty-minute walk brings me to the Flitwick Football Centre, where dozens of children are being collected by their parents following the various junior games just finished.  The Centre is quite a sizeable complex, with numerous under-sized pitches and a 4g facility, as well as an extremely well-appointed clubhouse, where friendly staff dispense coffee and chips for £4.15, (though they don't take cash).

No football furniture on the main pitch, though there is hard-standing all along one side.

After a scrappy first twenty minutes, with the ball spending more time fifteen feet in the air than on the ground, Belstone gradually settled, and seemed to realise that their usual close-passing game would be too much for their keen, but limited opponents.  And so it proved, with simple goals on 40 and 44 minutes giving them a 2-0 half-time lead.

The second half was pretty much all Belstone, with further goals coming on 67 and 86 minutes, and only some heroic work by the Flitwick keeper keeping the score down to four.

A trip to Cuffley to come in the next round, a much tougher proposition altogether.
