v Arsenal

Recommended Posts

It’s not been announced by the club (yet) that the game isn’t all ticket, but that may change. It’s beneficial to have as many tickets sold in advance as possible so the club has an idea of numbers and can make decisions about various things.

Understandable Matt.

I only mentioned it after being informed on Tuesday at the Binfield game.

An attendance of over 1200 for a Friday night friendly against an under 18 Arsenal side.

Lots of youngsters & families there.

If that level of interest could somehow miraculously be maintained for league matches we would have a club that could be serious promotion contenders.

Unfortunately it's not going to happen.

We had over 1,300 against Arsenal last season and averaged 600+ in the season.

Only success on the pitch will get us anywhere close to the 1,000 mark.

Not at our best but nevertheless a deserved 1-0 win.

Only one triallist who played at left back.

For the 28 minutes that he was on the pitch I was quite impressed with him, very quick and delivered some very good crosses into dangerous areas.

Definitely had something about him just a shame he didn't get more minutes.

I am not thinking as negatively and pessimistically as that RR.

During half time in the England v Sweden Women's Euro semi-final on Tuesday evening, I sent an email to a Slough Town supporter, who doesn't watch women's football, which read, "If Rebels are playing football like this at Arbour Park by 27th August, there will be 2,800 against Eastbourne Borough on 26th November and 2,800 at each match for the rest of the season."

No disrespect to Ben Harris???, but imagine Beth Mead wearing the Slough Town number 9 shirt!!!

Certainly not being negative or pessimistic just being realistic Shredding.

Unless we are fighting it out for promotion or playing a big club in the FA Cup we will not get anywhere near the 1,000+ average mark.

I don't know who the Slough supporter you e mailed is but I reckon he's either a dreamer or he'd had a few sherbets.

I suggest that you read my post again correctly RR as I didn't mention a text and quoted from the email that I had sent this particular supporter.

Ok pedantic but now corrected Shredding.

Yesterday, many of us Forum Members were amongst the 17.4 million people who watched the Women's Euros 2022 Final, televised from Wembley Stadium before an excited 87,210 crowd. A team of heroes ... every match they played, more and more people wanted to see the next match.

Personally, I felt as excited before the match as I did before the 1966 World Cup Final.

The Wembley crowd of 87,210 yesterday compared with 2,567 at Kenilworth Road, Luton for the second leg of the 1984 final of the same competition.

One day in the autumn of 1975, a resident of Stoke Poges mentioned to my father that his son was playing for Slough Boys against South Oxon Boys at Wexham Park in the English Schools Trophy. "Such a shame" my father said, "they play such delightful football but there were only about eighty in the crowd." Slough Boys were very lucky to be drawn at home in all seven rounds of the competition and I went along with my father to the next six rounds and to both legs of the final against Liverpool. The gates went up and up for each round because that Slough Boys team were a team of heroes ... and more and more people wanted to see their next match. The second leg of the final at Wexham Park had a gate of over six thousand, helped by the large number of young children in the crowd.

I have the two programmes of the final in front of me ... 5p for the first leg at Anfield which Slough Boys lost 4-2 before a crowd of just under five thousand and 10p for the second leg at Wexham Park which Slough Boys won 1-0 before a crowd of just over six thousand.

The point of this post is that I am confident that if Slough Town can develop a team of heroes, everyone who comes to a match will want to come to the next one and word will get around that Slough Town are worth coming to watch.

Proves my point that there is nothing like success to get attendances up.

Not sure you can compare the attendance at Luton in 1984 with yesterday's game.

The Women's game is much higher profile and of a better standard now than it was in 1984.

Have to say I found some elements of the Final yesterday perplexing.

He commentators going on about how fair and well played the game was – So they missed the German player throwing the ball at the lino near the end. The ref only gave a yellow for the studs up challenge by Russo on 56 mis which would have been a red in the men’s game.

And then the media now saying “celebration praised for empowering women” and how good it was for Kelly to take her shirt off to show her sports bra.

Firstly, it is a yellow card for removing the shirt – media supporting breaking laws of the game.

Secondly, is that really the behaviour that should be promoted to young girls playing the game?

Thirdly, is it now alright for fans to call for players to “show us your sports bra”? surly not!
