Ryman League Clubcall

Another point would be that I don't see what benefits merging would being to the individual areas. Surely Windsor wants and needs its own club even if it doesn't get massive crowds? And the same goes for Burnham.

Call me simplistic but I just want to support Slough Town FC back at Wexham Park where we were all happy. I still believe this can be done.

I completely understand why you would not like to merge with us. History, Players, Managers, kit designs it's all just too much aggreivation. By the sounds of many of the posts on this subject most people would rather watch someone else or create another team if that happens.

I think this should be nipped in the bud quick and just let both clubs get on with what they've got to do.

Good luck. Hope you finish in the top 6 and that you have a package to either get Wexham Park back or a new ground altogether.

Mergers...closures....Remember St.Leonards who we played in the FA Cup last season?

Formely a works team, a chairman took over, pumped in lots of money, promised the earth, they climbed up the pyramid to the Dr.Martins League...and he and his money left.

They were relegated back to the Sussex County League last season and it now looks like curtains http://www.hastingstoday.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=480&ArticleID=728899

I know they play next to Hastings grounds but I still find it sad when clubs go out of business. Maybe because to me footie clubs aren't business's but part of the community - when Slough get back to Slough its up to everyone in the Supporters Trust to make sure our roots are deep in the Slough community (i don't think the towns of Slough and Windsor could be more different.)

Maybe it seems bonkers for me to talk about the Slough community when i've been living in Brighton for ten years now, but despite sniffing around at nearer clubs, Slough are the team i've supported for the past 25+ years and i still love following them, and would fight tooth and nail against any sort of merger.

Quite right Matt - people do want their own teams - Burnham merged with Hillingon Borough, when Hillingdon lost their ground to become Burnham and Hillingdon and dropped the Hillingdon soon after - and Hillingdon Borough has been recreated at grass roots level - local football is just that - it represents local interests and is supported by local people. And that includes people who are "local at heart", such as Brighton Rebel and some of the other ex-Slough residents who post on here. There needs to be something to bring Clubs together for it to be successful - there are some that have worked like Dagenham and Redbridge, but I bet there were some battles over that!

I know this contradicts my argument, but I used to watch Hillingdon in their Southern League days and I know that Dave and his son Justin, who are Slough fans, used to go there as well, years ago. So sometimes necessity demands that we change loyalties if we support the idea of local football, which has to better than all this Premiership nonsense which is sucking the lifeblood out of the game!
