Ascot U 2nd July A

Lovely goal from Goddard. Was impressed with Harry Williams first half, very neat and tidy, and enjoyed Eitel in the centre in the second half. Ben Harris’ performance was…interesting.

He looked like a man on a mission............

I was quite impressed with trialist Fabio Sole but it was against Ascot so best to judge players when we play the likes of Wealdstone, Aldershot etc.

Morning all.

Just a few  thoughts after yesterday's friendly.

Talking to the Slough fans around me before the game, we all seemed to have the same feelings about the coming season.

Two or three weeks ago we felt a bit apprehensive about how the new season would unfold, what with 4 teams to go down and a tougher division in prospect.

After the new ( and not so new) arrivals though, dare I say there is a hint of "excitement" about what the new season may bring ?

It might not last long once the season starts in earnest, but it's great to be in a position to think positively at this present time.

Yesterday was of course only our first friendly, but I agree with you RR that I thought  Fabio had a decent 45 minutes.

I also thought Joe Dandy had a very good 45 minutes. ( Joe was the number 16 wasn't he? )

I thought it was great  to hear him have the confidence during the game to shout out  loudly at  Aaron, an established senior player, " Get away Aaron, get away from me !!!!"

( I'm guessing Joe wanted to have more space down the right wing. )

It was also good to see Ryan back.

Joe Dandy played in the right back position in the second half with Toggs and Edon Pruti in the centre.

Fabio looked ok and was confident enough to pick the ball up from the defense to start moving the ball forward.

One major problem for any midfielder on trial with us is the competition he would face to even get a place in the squad.

We seem to have an abundance of midfielders at our disposal.

It's early days and we can't get carried away but it does look more promising than last season where some thought relegation was a possibility.

The only proviso is 4 go down and with sides like last seasons strugglers Welling going full time (possibly a hybrid version) I'm finding it increasingly difficult to name the sides that will finish in the bottom 4.

I too thought Joe looked decent yesterday and quite determined. Makes for a difficult selection headache in defence! Fabio played well but did his job but will he offer anything more or different to what we have in what’s an already packed midfield? Obviously we have to give him more than 1 game and hopefully against Wealdstone (if he’s selected) he can show a bit more. I wonder why our 2nd goalie Michael wasn’t played yesterday? Although Rhys didn’t have much to do he seemed fine and reading his history had/has potential. Hopefully there may be some striker trialists in the upcoming games.

I’ve not read anywhere Welling have gone full time? I’d be surprised if it’s proper full time and more likely 3 mornings a week. But yes if teams like that are spending more money and with 4 being relegated it does make for a much harder division. But I’m currently confident we have the squad to compete for the play offs.

Michael is on loan all season at Southall Glen so would assume he would be doing pre-season with them.

Just thought instead of bringing in another keeper, Michael may get a chance this pre-season as he’s been around a while.
