Reading the thread, got me to thinking hypothetically, if we as a club came into money (rich owner for example), and had the options, would what your preference be:

A) Buy AP from the Council

B)Go  back to WP (with a bit of work to be done)

C) Look for a new location

My dad (RIP) always told me about the Dolphin days (just a bit before my time) where alot of fans around that age / era spoke fondly of watching games in that ground, where I beleive we owned the stadium....

For me, I will always have a soft spot for WP as I grew up watching us in mid 80s.

I am struggling to find the love for AP, but rather there than having no home at all.

Although AP doesn’t feel like a proper home due to it being a multi purpose venue, the location and actual ground build are a lot better than WP. I too started watching the Rebels at WP so for me there’s still a connection and vast history. But the main issues would be paying a stupid price to purchase it and would we be based in South Bucks council boundaries or has that all changed? Look how long it took to find the land for AP, where in the council boundaries would be a large enough piece of land to build again and a site that’s not out on its own and not well transport networked? My ideal scenario is the club somehow buy AP but first knock down both behind the goal stands and build 2 identical proper steep concrete terracing with roofs that keep the atmosphere in. Plus include toilets and catering within these stands. Refurbish the ‘clubhouse’ and make it more homely and less clinical. Also 4 corner floodlights so there’s no viewing obstructions.

Upton Court Park, the home of Slough Rugby, Hockey & Cricket. And land that was specifically donated to the Council with sports use covenants.

New Clapton Stadium Ltd owned  the ground  I was told some years ago that after we went to Wexham Park the Supporters club stayed at the Dolphin for some years Anyone confirm or debunk that?

I believe that the land on which the Dolphin Stadium was located belonged to Mr George Bennett of the Dolphin Hotel and was acquired by the greyhound stadium company (or one of its predecessors) in the later 1930's after the football club declined his offer to sell it to them. It was stated in at least one letter seeking election to the Isthmian League in the late 1960's that the club had recently secured a new 25 year lease on the ground but shortly afterwards it was given notice to quit-the reason at the time being I think that the greyhound company wished to widen the track in a way that would have encroached to much on the area available for football. The recently built supporters club headquarters continued on the same site, although no longer directly connected to the football club, and was where, as recalled in his autobiography, Mr Alan Johnson decided to join the Labour Party.

I think you will find that Slough Town rented The Dolphin as it was a greyhound stadium.

Also, your post is nothing to do with the thread "Player Announcements".
