3spirit, if Matt Lench had a good pre season and was back to anywhere near his best would he be in your starting 11?

Yes.

Is John Goddard a winger?

Right sided winger, predominantly.

I think he’s more a central midfielder but can play anywhere across the middle.

You're a wind up merchant !

Have heard that the club has a new sponsor – Tena Lady – for all those who cant wait until the season kicks off!

It appears you may not quite get the concept of a football club forum! Fair enough if you’re not bothered about the new signings, what players may start the season or anything else to do with our football club but many of us do want to discuss it. So the sensible option is to not involve yourself if you don’t want to discuss it, is that fair?

I would rather make sure we have a ground and a financially viable set up first.

As without that, there is no football.

So, all the panic about who plays where on the pitch is a minor part of the whole picture.

I think your concern re Arbour Park is justified but with SBC in the hands of the government appointed commisioners who would you talk too? The commisioners have said they will concentrate on selling assets outside the Borough and knowing the situation potential purchasers are  driving hard bargains It's unlikely they'll get anywhere near their target and more pressure will fall on the  local assets to get BestValue.

Or think more positive instead of fearing the worst! I think selling the ground would be one of the last assets to be sold. Imagine the uproar and even worse press they’d get selling a community asset and losing the home of the towns football club?

You sound like Fraser out of 'Dad's Army' with his catchphrase ' We're Doomed '.

Slough Town FC as a club has survived not having a stadium in Slough before. If the worst was to happen with Arbour Park being sold, then what's to say a ground share couldn't be done again?

Of course, no Slough supporter want's this scenario to happen but you seem to be taking pleasure out of scaremongering, and if I was a betting man I would say Arbour Park being sold is 85% unlikely and 15% possible.

I might be wrong in these odds but as the saying goes ' what's the point of going on about spilled milk, when it hasn't been spilt yet' ?

It wasn’t said as a wind up, it’s what I thought his natural/preferred position was!!!

Apologies Glen, I thought you were getting me going.

As far as I'm aware John Goddard is a right winger predominantly but could play on the left, and as an attacking midfielder. May be able to do a central midfield role but certainly not known for it.

He also has a good record for scoring goals hence why I put him in my proposed Slough team up front.

Not sure why I had it in my head he wasn’t a winger but as it seems he is then it’s an even better signing as we’re well covered in central midfield. If Dobbo can recapture his previous form and Goddard continues his form then we’ll have 2 of the best wingers in the division supplying plenty of assists hopefully.

Translation: what Sir Rebel1965 is saying is just scaremongering, yet also perfectly possible. :confused::confused:

Frankly the most likely  outcome will be that the stadium will remain an asset of SBC but that the agreement with SBC/STFC will have to be renegotiated to show SBC is getting a fair return  The lead commissioner has a reputation for maximising return in councils he's been involved with (for which he's paid £1200 per day + exes)

Yes, I suppose it's a contradiction. Yet if you read my full post properly I'm sure you would understand what I was getting at.

Perhaps you Nathan, or SirRebel1965, would be better off writing a title for a new thread about this as a separate issue, as this thread was about player announcements.

Under a new thread, those that are interested or worried about the situation can correspond/chat about it.

There is already a thread "Arbour Park" which is the sixth thread down on the home page.

Obviously that is the thread to which some of the above posts should have been made.

Reading the thread, got me to thinking hypothetically, if we as a club came into money (rich owner for example), and had the options, would what your preference be:

A) Buy AP from the Council

B)Go  back to WP (with a bit of work to be done)

C) Look for a new location

My dad (RIP) always told me about the Dolphin days (just a bit before my time) where alot of fans around that age / era spoke fondly of watching games in that ground, where I beleive we owned the stadium....

For me, I will always have a soft spot for WP as I grew up watching us in mid 80s.

I am struggling to find the love for AP, but rather there than having no home at all.
