I disagree, I believe we can adapt how we play to suit the players we do have. I think we will bring another centre midfield player in, if Aaron Kuhl does leave but I can see plenty of options with the players we do have. And to start the season with, we may not chase after another midfielder straight away especially if we have Leon Chambers Parillion back with us,too.

Of course there'd be options without Aaron Kuhl but we'd still be seriously depleted in midfield if he was to leave and we didn't replace him.

If we get Guy Hollis back and still have Edon Pruti we could move Lee Togwell back in to midfield,a position he has thrived in for Slough over the years. I also like Matt Lench in centre midfield but he rarely gets started there but he is an option and can play alongside George Hunt and we can still have Scott Davies sitting behind them,if we want to.

I don't want to see Aaron Kuhl leave either but we need to face up to reality that it's more than likely.

As we have budget constraints, why bring another player in to replace Aaron, when we haven't tried out all the players we have for his position. To me this can be worked on in pre-season and if we were to bring in a replacement for Aaron why rush it and spend out when we might not have to or can do it later in the season[thus saving a few months money]. Besides often the team that starts the league campaign, is altered for the winter games and can be very different to the team that goes through the later months and finishes the season [March to May].

Guest Wycombe Rebel

I wouldn’t have Dobson or Roberts back!

As for the midfield, if we start with Togwell, Davies and Lench as the midfield 3 I’d be more than happy.

So currently the squad looks like this -

Jonathan North

Josh Jackman

Edon Pruti

Joe Dandy

Lee Togwell

Scott Davies

George Hunt

Eitel Goueth

Matt Lench

James Dobson

Imran Kayani

Gabe George

With Ryan Bird, Aaron Kuhl, Joe Lawal all named as potential players for signing / pre-season and the "familiar faces" that have been mentioned on other threads, I think it's an excellent start to the summer thus far.

At the moment from those either announced or pre-season bound, the obvious gaps in the squad are at striker and left back. Will be interesting to see how those positions shape up moving forwards.

One player missing who we all seem to have forgotten about is young striker James Beauchamp.

Brought into the club at the back end of last season and really hasn't been given a chance to show what he can do.

No mention of him in our retained players list or players that are leaving/not signing.

It's funny you say that RR as I thought of him earlier today and went back to the announcement when we signed him to see if he was on 18 months contract or any mention of this season but nothing listed or mentioned on there.

As said on my thoughts previously I'd have him back and he maybe amongst the U23s in pre-season and IMO he is a wide right player as opposed to a striker (having seen him at Biinfield) and might just be the perfect foil for Dobbo back on the left if the managers wanted to play 4-2-3-1 instead of the diamond 9f last year.

Will be interesting to see if his name comes up.

James is still part of our plans, but will start pre season with Binfield, as we feel he needs a bit more senior action.

Thanks Neil for the update. I am sure other clubs supporters wish they had the same rapport with their managers.

Excellent news and probably spot on Neil. He looked good towards the backend of the season at Binfield and the game time at step4 will help him same as Lewis Pegg and Gabe George.

BlueRebel, it might be that our managers hate this forum, and think it is a real pain having to explain things, and may wish they had never started this rapport with fans ! ?

Do fans think Slough will start with 19 players in the squad for the commencement and early part of the season, then cut back to 17 players after the initial couple of months ?

I think its difficult to put an actual number on the "starting" squad currently as there is too many questions to be answered -

1. Of the "additional" players listed / mentioned (Bird etc) which of these will be retained?

2. Who and how many will the familiar faces be?

3. What role will the U23's play in the final squad?

If you look at the current 12 players announced (not including James Beauchamp for now), we have 1 GK, 3D, 7M, 1F (depending on how you categorise Togwell and George).

We don't have a LB, if Gabe George is going to be used further up the pitch, we are at least 2 further D men missing (Hollis and Bird?), Kuhl signing would give 8 midfielders and then probably 2 strikers.

If the above is correct, I'd say 6 more signings (to be potentially Bird, Hollis, Kuhl, LB and 2 strikers) and thus a 1st team squad of 18 to start the season, to be complimented with U23's.

For me if Bird or Hollis are not in the plans then Lewis Pegg is another young centreback to be promoted to the first team.
