I’d be very interested to see the evidence of this too. If it’s true then what’s to stop any developer offering a reduced sum to buy the stadium site, knocking it down and building whatever they please? Or is there some type of covenant in place that says in effect that football has to be played here?

There is no covenant and there is nothing stopping a developer.

You know this for sure? If true that’s a worrying situation which the club have no control over. Let’s hope the council sell enough of their other assets to keep them out of trouble.

If it’s on a Disposable Assets List then there is no covenant.

In the Dartford programme there is an article by Brighton Rebel where he interviews Councillor Rob Anderson asking questions about AP.

Can you screenshot and put the article on here please?

I would hope that "the royal we" can get together and formulate a plan to buy out the stadium if it comes to that.

What a great read and so enlightening. Brighton Rebel sure does write clever, insightful articles.

It seems to me that we need Rob Anderson to be wrapped in cotton wool and pray nothing happens to him to put his connection with our football club in jeopardy ie ill health,re-locates,changes employment etc, as Slough Town FC could be back to square one without him, as another councillor/leader could have totally different ideas towards our football club. Remember Councillor Geoff Cutting, anyone ! Gulp !

I imagine that it would be difficult to put together sufficient funds to purchase Arbour Park if the site can be developed for housing. If it can't, there wouldn't seem to be much point  in the Council being made to sell it. I seem to recall that the sale price of Wexham Park (something just North of £300,000 if I remember it correctly) was, as agreed by both parties, fixed by the then district valuer on the basis that, by decision of South Bucks DC, it could be used only for "recreational" purposes.

My reading of the interview blog:

As long as any council asset is currently profitable including it's potential future income and meets the aims of the council there shouldn't be a problem.

All open to interpretation RR, if someone comes in with a reasonable bid, Avison Young will recommend sale as they need to recoup some of the black hole!

I think there will be loads of other assets sold before they even contemplate the selling of Arbour Park,as the football club is a community hub, and Slough as a place needs identity, social cohesion and common interest for this multi-cultural town/it's residents, and it's future generations.

Why build it in the first place, if they were going to tear it down,a few years later?

Totally agree 3spirit.

It's a community stadium that hosts numerous football events from senior to women's to junior football teams and any club or individuals who want to hire the pitch and clubhouse.

Besides it was built for current and future generations to help fight obesity and help keep the people of Slough fit and healthy.

I'm sure there must be loads of other assets that could be sold off before AP.

As long as it's profitable and fits with the current and future aims of the council I don't see there being a problem.

When a council pay £50 000 for a living wall and a few pot plants when in financial trouble who knows what they will do!!!!

That is exactly my point Ian. It’s too volatile a situation to say they won’t sell!

I don't know how big the site at Arbour Park is but, by way of comparison, in 2006 Horsham received £4.75 million for its Queen Street site which had been valued as high as £7 million not long before (but that's another story).

Instead they should have spent it on 'a party and boozing' during lockdown ! ha ha !

Blue Rebel,I would like to re-join. Haven't been able to in last couple of years,so I'll pay £30 this season. Can't say fairer than that. Prefer to pay in cash/or cheque. Is it best for me to join on the first home game of the season, or will the trust send me an application form through the post? PM if you wish, or reply here I'm not bothered.

Mike Lightfoot or Kay Lathey have my email address and home address,if you want to contact me direct.
