To bring in players, I expect a few will need to leave. Trouble is we haven't much scope here.

If Guy Hollis does come back. I would let Ryan Bird go. It would be a shame on Ryan, given that bad injury he has had, and how much he has put into Slough since he has been with us but it's going to be a big challenge for him to come back to playing anyway, and perhaps it would be best for him to return, at Step 3. If he could get back up to playing well at centre half, it may be someone you could always get back. Thankfully it's not my decision.

Joe Dandy I would keep now Sean Fraser has left.  If we were to bring in two good strikers, and I needed to free up some players, then I would consider letting Eitel Goueth,Imran Kayeni. Ben Harris,Joe Lawal, Ada Okorogheye and Scott Davies go. I wouldn't want Scott Davies to leave but realistically he isn't in front of Matt Lench, Lee Togwell, Aaron Kuhl or George Hunt for placing in our midfield, although I'm not totally convinced on George Hunt yet, I would say he is likely to stay and appears to have done enough to keep around. Scott has been a player I've always thought highly of in the non league game, and has had a good season for Slough this time around. His experience is second to none, too, so I wouldn't wish him to leave but money has to be found somewhere. If Aaron Kuhl gets snapped up by some club higher or paying more, then Scott should stay in my view.

I wouldn't want to let Ben Harris leave, or Imran Kayeni. Ben has the edge over Imran, given his experience and goalscoring but Imran has youth and fitness on his side but we do need new blood up front, and so one of these would likely have to make way. Ada O, I've not seen play so that's why I've chosen him. Eitel Goueth  and Joe Lawal could do with regular games at Step 3, so a loan or just release may be apt.  Kurtis Cumberbatch seems versatile and from what I have seen of him, I would keep around going into next season, and see if he can 'step up to the plate' and become a regular for us.

Let's hope not !

It’s amazing how opinions differ, for me, Scott Davies was brilliant anchoring our midfield with the youngsters in front of him this season. For me, he’s the first name on the team sheet along with Josh Jackman.

Agree with another season of Scott Davies CR. My only concern is he is of course getting older, hence my line on getting a big, tough CDM to learn from Scott for a season and share the workload.

Agreed but perhaps Lee Togwell will be able to help in centre midfield more and lighten Scott’s workload.

I now see Togwell as more of than senior player, obviously still a coach and more of a bit part player (perhaps to come on in the last 10 minutes of games to help see out wins?) However, if I had to prioritise I'd put the 2 strikers in front of a midfielder and have Davies and Togwell CDMs.

I think you are right about Lench RR, but to me it's a straight choice on performance and money between him and Kurtis Cumberbatch and on performance this season I would keep Kurtis. Having no idea on eithers wages, but making the assumption the longer standing player is on more money, worse (IMO) performance and more money is a no brainer, regardless of injury.

I'll reply to all your posts here SloughFlyer. Don't agree with you about Jonathan North or Matt Lench but it is a possibilty that Matt Lench may get discarded. I certainly wouldn't do that. To me a fit Matt Lench is our best playmaker/creator.

Can't see your reasoning on Jonathan North either. Has he done something to you in a previous life ! ha ha ! I don't think he is quite as good as Jack Turner but he's been around the circuit a good while now, and is no mug. I think he's a good keeper and we are lucky to have him.

Cant see Edon Pruti getting signed by anyone higher yet but I expect he will at some point. For me the jury is still out on Kurtis Cumberbatch. I would keep but has he done enough for Bakes and Unders?  I have not seen Lewis Pegg,so can't comment on him.

I like that Bakes and Unders have established a link with Oxford United. That should be good for our club going forward,if we can keep our managers !

I've always liked Scott Davies as a player, and this season he has played a pivital role in the team. I only mentioned him leaving as a way to get money for strikers, given his age and the other midfielders we have.

That opinion is based on watching the whole season 3spirit???.

Just kidding, I'm not going to rehash the whole North thing again (if you want some context go and have a look at some of the match threads from before Xmas) and I'm also well aware I'm on my own in my opinion of him (hence the "what I think the club will do"  part of my comments), but for me he is nothing special as a keeper and I'm sure one of the teams higher earners. I'm of the belief there are plenty of keepers that will be available this summer that are quite capable of being Slough's goalie that are better and cheap than North.

As for Edon, I'm pretty sure there are quite a few clubs already circling for him unfortunately.

You are entitled to your opinion, and it's good to read what other fans think. I like Northy and would keep but can understand your rationale'.

Edon Pruti would be a loss, and a real pity if he leaves so soon after joining us. I don't see him as irreplaceable, though.

Ok let’s play Football Manager and say the weekly budget is £5,000 for a squad of 20.

For arguments sake let’s divide it up as follows:

Goalkeeper & Defenders £1,500 (7 players)

Midfielders £2,000 (8 players)

Attackers £1,500 (5 players)

Who would spunk the entire ‘attackers’ budget on just 2 top strikers?
Or would you bring in 4 top players to form the spine of your team?
Maybe you need just 2 wingers instead because if they can supply the chances maybe an average striker would suffice?

I would have 4 strikers and one less midfielder. Some of my midfielders would be able to play as defenders and some of my defenders would be able to play as midfielders. Two of my defenders could play up front if ever needed. At least 3 of my midfielders would be a goal threat and score goals and would be able to do a job up front, if needed. I would favour a passing/free flowing game with the emphasis on attack.

For Slough currently, I don't see the point of blowing our budget on two top strikers but I do see the need of two strikers of note coming to the club, who are not complete novices.

So in a nut shell you want us to sign something similar to the Liverpool or Man City squads  ?

It might be worth looking at relatively local young players at league clubs that appear to want to put them out on loan.

An example might be someone like Ali Al-Hamadi, a 20 year old Wycombe forward who has been on loan at Bromley but only got about 400 minutes of match time in six weeks.

I haven't seen him play, but would appear to be a similar type of player as Stevens & Adebayo were when they were with us.

Well, that is the sort of players we keep going for since Steve Easterbrook left the club and the budget is tight . I see nothing wrong in it and some have proved to be very good but I would like Slough to also take chances on Step 3 non league players who don't cost the earth but have done relatively well at that level. Two of our best players in our current squad came from lower down in non league football and they are still doing the business in the Conference South. In case you are wondering that is Lee Togwell who played for Chalfont St Peter and Matt Lench who played for Hitchin.

Ben Harris has just tweeted to say he’s been released. No one can be surprised due to his injury record I guess, it’s just a shame he was never able to fulfill his potential. But hopefully this means we’ll be bringing in at least one senior striker.

As you say it's a great shame but no real surprise.

We need to make every penny count next season and with his continuing injury problems I think Ben became a bit of a luxury player.

No surprises there for me. I actually find it strange that some on twitter are surprised. With his injuries and having seen him play for Virginia Water at Step 5 earlier this season, I'd say a Step 4 club for him would suit. Was too good for Step 5 but a Step 3 club couldn't rely on him for the season.

Shame really as he played quite well for us over the years, but we never quite got the best Ben Harris we could of had due to injuries. Without those I suspect he would have been our number 1 striker and the goal scorer we need, but I guess some players have no luck with their health.

Talking of Injuries, has Bird gone yet?

I thought he was quite near to training fully again? I guess he’d also be one of our higher earners but I think he’ll be given pre-season to get back to full fitness.

Can't say I've ever been the biggest fan of Ben Harris playing for Slough[nothing personal just as the type of player I prefer] but I know he hasn't been all bad. For Bakes and Unders he has served them well. His injury record would be a concern for a Step 3 club but for me he should get offers from clubs there,as he still has plenty to offer a club at that level. He won't play every game,of course but I think other managers would certainly consider him for a part in their squads.

I wish him well in whatever football path he takes next. Even though,he has never been my preferred type of striker, I would never question his commitment to the Slough cause and I recognise the important part he has played in getting our club into the Conference South, and helping us stay there.
