What do you think, SloughFlyer? In what positions should Slough recruit.

Of course a lot depends on who stays and who goes.

RR,who would you release and what positions would you seek to improve?

I know you said a defensive midfielder.Have you seen anyone you like?

Assuming everyone is staying:

I'd like to see an experienced center back, preferably 6ft 2'' plus to complement Pruti and Dandy.

I've got a feeling we could see Guy Hollis back which would give us the experience side of it.

A different type of central midfielder to what we've got now, as you put it a Darron Wilkinson type.

And at least one striker ideally two.

As for a wide player, it probably depends on what shape we intend to play.

If we are to stay mainly narrow there probably is no point in getting a winger in just to sit on the bench in most games.

To bring in players, I expect a few will need to leave. Trouble is we haven't much scope here.

If Guy Hollis does come back. I would let Ryan Bird go. It would be a shame on Ryan, given that bad injury he has had, and how much he has put into Slough since he has been with us but it's going to be a big challenge for him to come back to playing anyway, and perhaps it would be best for him to return, at Step 3. If he could get back up to playing well at centre half, it may be someone you could always get back. Thankfully it's not my decision.

Joe Dandy I would keep now Sean Fraser has left.  If we were to bring in two good strikers, and I needed to free up some players, then I would consider letting Eitel Goueth,Imran Kayeni. Ben Harris,Joe Lawal, Ada Okorogheye and Scott Davies go. I wouldn't want Scott Davies to leave but realistically he isn't in front of Matt Lench, Lee Togwell, Aaron Kuhl or George Hunt for placing in our midfield, although I'm not totally convinced on George Hunt yet, I would say he is likely to stay and appears to have done enough to keep around. Scott has been a player I've always thought highly of in the non league game, and has had a good season for Slough this time around. His experience is second to none, too, so I wouldn't wish him to leave but money has to be found somewhere. If Aaron Kuhl gets snapped up by some club higher or paying more, then Scott should stay in my view.

I wouldn't want to let Ben Harris leave, or Imran Kayeni. Ben has the edge over Imran, given his experience and goalscoring but Imran has youth and fitness on his side but we do need new blood up front, and so one of these would likely have to make way. Ada O, I've not seen play so that's why I've chosen him. Eitel Goueth  and Joe Lawal could do with regular games at Step 3, so a loan or just release may be apt.  Kurtis Cumberbatch seems versatile and from what I have seen of him, I would keep around going into next season, and see if he can 'step up to the plate' and become a regular for us.

Will the management leave They must get disheartened by our small budget low crowds If a club in our league or even below with a decent budget came in ?????

Let's hope not !

I wouldn’t be surprised if our managers have been approached previously. It’s certainly something that could happen, and going by Neil’s last interview to actually thought he was going to announce his resignation there and then!!! I for one wouldn’t blame or begrudge them moving onto a new challenge as it doesn’t appear our financial situation will change anytime soon.

You asked, and I have deliberately left any opinion on the squad and players etc to the end of the season, hence the lack of comments on any other thread over the last couple of weeks. I'll post a few posts separately to keep it simple to read and comment on......

GK

1. New keeper (release North as there are plenty of keepers out there that are better than him and I'm sure cheaper, to help our budget). I have 2 names in mind, 1 old keeper and 1 new.

2. M. Edegbe (sp) - having seen him for Egham this past season, he looks like a good prospect and did fairly well in the games he played for Slough as well (save for the kicking mistake against Oxford).

What I think the club will do.....

Keep North and carry on with Micheal's "dual reg/loan"

DEF

Jackman, Grant, George, Pegg, Dandy, Pruti - all to stay

Fraser - obviously gone

Sign - Hollis/Bird - would love to see Guy back and I think Ryan Bird deserves a chance to come back but it would be on the proviso that his injury was cleared up. Maybe trials pre-season and go from there.

What I think the club will do.....

Pruti will leave as he will end up signing for a club that pays more, possibly pro/national league. Then have Bird, Hollis, Pegg and Dandy for CB (which I'm not against)

MID

Davies, Togwell, Hunt, Kuhl, Cumberbatch, Goueth, Beauchamp - all to stay

Sign - a "big" rough tough tackling CDM to take the pressure off Scott Davies and give competition for places

Release - Lench - this will be a controversial one, primarily because he is well liked by supporters, players, managers etc, but I'm looking at finances and performances and to me Lench has not been anywhere as good this past season as he was and if we need money for other positions, there is an easy move for me.

What I think the club will do.....

Keep the Midfield as it is and possibly release Cumberbatch.

ATT

Kayani - to stay

Release/gone - Tenconi (USA), Ben Harris - Im afraid his race is run for Slough now. Like Ben as a guy and obviously he is well liked throughout the club but he doesn't have the fitness to command a place in "MY" Slough squad (or really the goals output any more as I believe prior to the last few games he had 5 goals all season). Joe Lawal - shame about him for me but unlike Goueth hasn't really shown me enough to suggest he has what it takes at this level.

Sign - 2 new strikers, of which I have at least 2 names of players that I think are good enough to give goals to the team and set up I would play.

What I think the club will do......

Sign 1 new striker and mix in U23's.

A few general thoughts about the summer and next season -

1. I agree with those that have said about Neil and Jon and they are the biggest summer signing for the club for me. My Dad asked me on the way home from Hampton whether I thought they would stay and I said 95% yes as it seemed with the bringing through of the younger talent they liked the project. Having seen Neil's interview, I agree with those that are sceptical they will stay and hope we get some positive news on that ASAP.

2. With my proposals above, prior to any new signings, the club would have moved on the wages of North, Fraser, Lench, Tenconi, Harris and Lawal. To replace those with a new GK, 1 x CB (? Ryan Bird), a CM and 2 new strikers ( which is 4/5 players, at least 2 of which would be cheaper than our current players - having a complete guess at wages???).

3. I really like the article and twitter posts yesterday from the Oxford Mail in which Jon commented on the 2 loans we had and about the links between Oxford United and Slough. That along with the U23s Academy are 2 very worthwhile moves for the club and can only yield positivity to me.

4. Looking at the clubs current predicament financially and more importantly the clubs ability to compete financially in the level we are at, sponsorship and money generating ideas have to be a big focus in the off season. As has been suggested previously, I'd like the steering committee to arrange a couple of forums, maybe 1 on the playing side with the managers etc and 1 on off the field matters for fans to attend. You never know what might come out of those types of things and what gems could be unearthed.

Just a couple of points:

James Beauchamp is a striker.

I stand to be corrected but I think for a good portion of the season Matt Lench has been playing with some sort of injury.

Well, there's my take on everything playing wise and a few supplementary comments for good measure. Should get some discussion going if nothing else?

He was announced as a striker RR but for Binfield we saw him 3 times play on the RW and he looked dangerous there. To me, that's his position, either RW or RAM.

I think you are right about Lench RR, but to me it's a straight choice on performance and money between him and Kurtis Cumberbatch and on performance this season I would keep Kurtis. Having no idea on eithers wages, but making the assumption the longer standing player is on more money, worse (IMO) performance and more money is a no brainer, regardless of injury.
