I wonder why this affair at French SchooI Meadow isn't a 3.00pm kick off, or earIier, on a Bank HoIiday. See the match programme:

Could be the last Batchworth derby for a while, or not depending on restructuring roulette. Harefield definitely leaving the Spartans for the CCL of their own volition, Jets may be cooling on their resistance to join them though of course ultimately it won't be their decision to make as a club on the borderline. Numbers being crunched, though there are unknown factors at thus stage in terms of the exact make up of each division, and no one will know that until mid June I expect.

On the pitch it should be lively after the reverse fixture.

Was certainly lively, Jets completing the double over their nearest neighbours 1-2.

Can't say we deserved to win, profligate finishing and a penalty save from Brad Shaw denying former Jet Louis Bircham in a case of justice done, there was a clear Harefield handball before the pen was given.

The early kick off caught some out and the crowd was very sparse, 40 maybe. Jets were still missing 2 of their recent absentees in Tom Inch and Harry Brady, with captain Harry Beaumont also out with a tight hamstring so this was a very unexpected 3 points. The battle to see who finishes top of the bottom half goes on ?

Premier Division
Ardley United v Aylesbury Vale Dynamos

The groundhopper from another Forum was present who aIways Iists the Iine ups in great detaiI:

Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Ardley United 3-2 Aylesbury Vale Dynamos

Admission - £6 (inc a programme which incorrectly gave the history and squad of Aylesbury United). Attendance - circa 40.
Venue: Ardley Playing Field (Nolan Oils Ground) - Ardley is a small Oxfordshire village, directly off the m40. The ground is on the entrance to the village, about a quarter of a mile from the M40. Some parking at the ground available. The ground appears to be an old railed pitch which has grown with the team. It’s now behind fencing, there’s a club house in the top corner serving refreshments and a small covered standing area offset behind one goal. The only seated stand is slightly offset from the half way line on the conifer lined touchline. All 4 sides are open for hard standing. A pleasant place to watch football on a hot day.
Game - A quick start, with the home side kicking up hill. Ardley look a decent side, playing quickly. Dynamos took the lead however when a long ball was headed straight back to Ollie Lawford who hit a hard low strike from 25 yards with Lapworth off his line, he couldn’t set himself properly. Ardley equalised almost immediately with a cross from the right which was headed in. Ardley had a couple of good chances which were well saved by deputy keeper McAteer. Ardley had the ball in the net in the 65th minute but it was deemed to be offside. Aylesbury were awarded a penalty just after when a stupid challenge by goalkeeper Lapworth was given. A good penalty by Ollie Lawford made it 1-2. Ardley equalised late on when Aylesburys defence couldn’t keep their line and a heavy bounce, which was a feature all day due to the dry pitch, was picked up and smashed into the bottom corner by Ben Willoughby. Ardley continued to pile on the pressure and got their reward in stoppage time when Tom Franklin headed home.

A groundhopper from another Forum was present to witness the rout:

Wellingborough Whitworth 8 Burton Park Wanderers 0
SSM Division One
Victoria Mill ground
Admission: £5, Programme: £1, Attendance: 65 h/c

Very one sided game, home side one up within first two minutes and 5 up at half time. Burton only had one real chance in first half and that was in 45th minute and should have scored.
Second half started with the visitors having another chance to score and they seemed to have sorted themselves out but in the end the home side got back in their stride and added 3 further goals with the 8th goal being the pick of the bunch.
Did not notice in the first half but in the second half, the visitors just had one sub and no manager, coach or trainer in their dug out! Strange at this level. The lino told me he had been on the line for a game between the same two sides in January and it had ended up 1-0 to Wellingborough with two players sent off from each side, much calmer today.

Saturday 16 April
Division Two
Eynesbury United 2 Tring Corinthians AFC 0

Eynesbury United's version of events:

Eynesbury United (2) 2 Tring Corinthians (0) 0 (Fox, Spavins)
United continued their topsy turvy form of late with a vital win at home to Tring Corinthians, a win that moves them back into a possible promotion position.
After Thursdays dismal second half performance against Buckingham United and a few home truths ringing in their ears, the Bulls rolled up their sleeves and put in a solid display. Chris Newton made his full debut at centre half and looked as if he had been there all season, with the whole defence working hard they deserved their clean sheet.
Tring Corinthians do not play like a side that are struggling near the bottom of the table, they worked hard and gave United a few worrying moments. United started at a good pace with Carberry and man of the match Baxter giving the Tring back line a torrid time. And Baxter had the first chance of note but his shot went wide.
Owen Dixon struck a free kick that went wide and Fox had an effort that was blocked. But United stayed patient and were rewarded on 24 minutes when a melee saw the ball fell to Shane Fox who finished brilliantly to make it one nil. United did not have to wait long before they doubled their lead, Neil Morris restored to the midfield placed a superb cross into the box which evaded everyone until it arrived at Spavins who slotted home. Two up and playing well and it could have been a few more but for good goalkeeping and defending.
Aidan McLean ran himself into the ground and on 63 minutes made a great tackle which he then knocked to Carberry who raced clear, he squared to Baxter whose shot was saved. Skipper Fox had the next effort but his shot was straight at the keeper. Jakob Buckle who slotted in at right wing back produced a moment of magic and a great cross but Baxter could not grow big enough to get his head to it. Baxter showed the attitude of the United display when in the 93rd minute he sprinted the width of the pitch to close down and win the ball. Unlike Thursday United controlled the second half with only a couple of scares and came through with three big points. Next up a really tough trip to Codicote on Wednesday night, another big performance needed there.

A groundhopper from another Forum was present:

Letchworth Garden City Eagles 4 - 1 Bedford FC (HT 1 - 0)
Pixmore Fields
Spartan South Midlands Division One - step 6
Admission £5, Programme £1, Tea £1.50, Attendance 46 and 1 dog, a dachshund named Nigel.
I'm always really busy in the week leading up to Easter so a local game for me as I didn't get home until after 14.30. A glorious day and the Clubhouse was showing the Man City v Liverpool game where a few were watching the tele indoors. Bedford FC had asked to film the game and had erected a scaffold for their film crew next to the seated stand. The second covered stand is now finished, seating may be added at a later date.
LGC scored first at 19 minutes in even though Bedford looked the stronger team in the first half. LGC turned up the pressure in the second half putting another 3 past the Bedford goaIKeeper. With a short pause in play when one of the LGC bench staff ably removed some fox poo from the pitch.

A groundhopper from another Forum was at Horsenden Lane, that expIains why there was disappointingIy no programme:

Spartan South Midlands League Premier Div
Risborough Rangers 4 Holmer Green 1 (H/T 1-1) Att: 131
Admission: £7/£4 Programmes: None, meant to be online only but, due to illness to programme editor, has yet to appear

Finally managed to tick this ground after attending a couple of years ago when I found the game had been postponed late in the day due to a thunderstorm. Fortunately no such problems this time around. Prior to the game RR were 2nd in the table to New Salamis (both teams having clinched promotion the previous weekend) on goal difference but RR have a game in hand. HG were 2nd from the bottom of the table so an easy home win looked on the cards but this turned out not to be the case despite the score line. The ground is roughly a 20 min walk from Princes Risborough Station.
RR came out of the blocks fast and almost snatched a goal after 2 mins when an onrushing forward just failed to connect with a cross. The ball went up the other end where an HG player had a one on one with the keeper but shot weakly straight at the keeper. On 5 mins HG earned a corner on the right and the in swinging corner went through a crowd of players and finished up in the net apparently diverted by the RR keeper. There was then a sustained period of pressure by RR and eventually on 23 mins Gavin James managed to lob the keeper from close range to secure an equaliser.
RR finally went ahead on 59 mins when Marcus Wylie hit a strong free kick from outside of the area which Sean Coles got a touch on to deflect it past the HG keeper. Wylie then finally made the game safe with 2 well taken goals in the 74th & 76th mins. With New Salamis drawing at 3rd place Hadley, RR are now 2 points clear at the top with a game in hand. A win at Tring on Tuesday will clinch the title otherwise they will have a championship decider at home to New Salamis next Saturday in the final match, when a draw will secure the title.

Attendance: 70 plus (but not sure how many paid to see the game and who just came out of social club)

Home side started well and almost went in front from a free kick that was well saved, then after 17 minutes the visitors went ahead and then for the rest of the half it was one way traffic. Leighton added a further two goals before the break.
Second half was quite scrappy then Leighton got a 4th goal in the 78th minute and you would have thought that would be it but suddenly the home side put a few passes together and got 3 goals back, however Leighton steadied the ship and saw injury time out without letting the home side get back on terms.
