v Dorking

Recommended Posts

Yes a defeat ends any hanging by a thread play off ambitions. But we have an odd side and I wouldn’t put it past them beating Dorking as we appear to do perform a lot better against the better and bigger teams. If we lose hopefully it’s not a thrashing and then the last remaining games although from a fans view will seem a bit pre-season like will give the management a better idea of who to keep or not for next season plus scout new players.

'We have an Odd side'

'Inconsistent side' are the words I would use.

THE BIG FOUR?

Rebels have beaten Maidstone United (H) and (A) and Dorking Wanderers (H) and I was at all three. And here comes the fourth of THE BIG FOUR.

Unfortunately, now the big day has come I am not feeling up for an away match and will only be going out today to a concert in Hillingdon this evening.

But all good wishes to Bakes and Unders, the team and supporters for a successful afernoon at Meadowbank.

Many a successful side has a disappointing performance during a season. Braintree Town were excellent last Saturday but I did feel for Bakes and Unders ... Tyler Goodrham out injured, Josh Jackman going off injured after 34 minutes and Matt Lench coming on after 72 minutes for his first appearance in seven weeks. Some criticise the size of the Rebels squad but whatever the size of it, there would not be three fully fit players of the calibre of those three on the sidelines.

At least Bakes and Unders did better than Dos.

Bakes and Unders lost 5-0 at Dorking Wanderers and won 0-1 at Maidstone United.

Dos lost 8-0 at Dorking Wanderers and 4-0 at Maidstone United!!!

Wasn’t there but was it as one sided as it sounded following on Twitter? I guess no real surprise at the result as the clubs are worlds apart in finances. At least this kills off any lingering play off talk! Just makes the remaining games a bit of a non event attendance wise but hopefully playing wise it’ll give time to blood a few untried U23’s and to firm up plans on who to keep it not.

There are mitigating circumstances for losing this game.

We have players who are playing despite carrying injuries and players who were not in the squad due to injury and unavailability.

What is difficult to accept is the way some of the goals were conceded.

A missed penalty from Dorking following a poor pass back along with another relatively simple chance spurned kept the score line down to 2-0 at half time.

A third goal conceded straight from the second half kick off killed the game as a contest.

As for attempts on target I can only remember one good save from a cracking Lee Togwell shot and an effort from George Hunt that hit the post.

The good news is that the bottom two teams lost which keeps the gap to 10 points.

We should be safe from any relegation scrap but I reckon we probably need another 6 points to be certain.

No RR we are only 8 points off the playoffs, and 32 points off the top.

I don't think the remaining games will be non events until we are mathematically safe from the drop.

We've hit another bad patch of form, mainly i'd say due to injuries, and with 3 teams below us still to play we are not out of the woods yet.

OK logically we'd have to fall off a cliff and other teams would have to put a run together for us to get involved in a relegation scrap but it's still possible.

Although I no longer live in the Slough area I still follow the club from afar.I find it quite disappointing that if the club has a bad result everything seems to go quiet. One week everyone is on this forum saying how great the club is and how open the management /club are with the fans and then a bad result and silence.I follow Wealdstone as well and although somewhat rough around the edges whatever result they get the club/fans will talk about it

Totally agree CR.

There must of been more supporters who were at the game who read this forum and so far only one has bothered to give any sort of opinion on the game.

IMO give praise when it's due and when it's not give an honest opinion on what you think went wrong without resorting to slagging any player or the team off.

For me, our current league position is more or less what I expected before the season started. But iwhen the club get nearer the play offs, expectations naturally rise and of course they’d be disappointment when the chance slips away. As a club our ‘ambitions’ have to be firstly to stay at this level but ideally try to improve year on year. Ideally a few good lucrative cup runs would help no end! We’re obviously relying a lot on the U23’s and other youngsters but hopefully a few of those will turn out to be very good at this level and either assist us in becoming better or move on for fees that can be reinvested into the playing side. For me this season is finished and being totally honest I’ll probably won’t see another game (although that’s largely in part due to my other team doing well…). I look forward to the squad rebuild in the summer and some optimism.
