v Dulwich

Recommended Posts

Difficult to accept a point after Dulwich equalized in around the 94th minute but in fairness over the course of the game a draw was probably the right result.

Solid performances from most players with Eddie Pruti giving another assured performance my motm .

Been going to Dulwich since the 1970s season one of the best matchs teams grounds and crowds to visit especially when the sun is out.

When we got on the coach the trees were showing what a windy day it was. Watching the game you could not tell until watching Unders interview so a big factor with the quality of the game, another brilliant save in the 1st  half from Northy he is in outstanding form at present so gutting for him with a late late show of an equalizer our goal came from very good cross and well put away by Ben.

Our supporters behind the goal were superb.

Dulwich with such a big crowd in London but how many are real home and away stalward supporters it's the socialising a great place to go for a pint or two they must be raking it in with with the club house and outside bar and food outlets.

Looking forward to our next encounter already.

A pint or two?

I'd say 5 or 6, basically a beer festival rather than a football match

A lesson learnt, if you want to watch the match properly don't sit in the stands, people continuously moving out of their seats to the bar etc.

Wasn’t there yesterday but I’ve been a few times in recent seasons and it’s an odd atmosphere and crowd ‘make up’. You got the originally hardcore few hundred who sing and support the team. Then the vast majority it seems who don’t actually watch the game but attend for a social pint or two. Just don’t get why come to the ground instead of a pub/bar if that’s what they want? Unless Dulwich are offering cheaper drinks than nearby establishments? It’s not like the ground is plush and has lots of different bars or balconies etc. Odd why they come on their thousand but I guess the club aren’t complaining one bit! When did it all start because I recall them getting a few hundred and then over a certain time period their crowds massively jumped?

I think stemmed from when they were kicked out of their ground and the whole community rallied around the club.

The ground is pretty basic with no covering around three sides.

If it rains you'd get pretty wet.

Well 2 sides but yes the ground is fairly basic and there’s a lack of terracing too which can’t help with viewing when you attract 2,500-3,000 regularly. As I said if they had a ‘plush’ ground like AFC Fylde you could understand the attraction but not sure why so many people who attend don’t seem that interested in the actual game being played, it’s quite odd!

Statement dated Friday 25th February 2022 : The Dulwich Hamlet Supporters’ Trust  have today issued an update about the new stadium for the club, which we have reproduced in full below :-

"
Last week, the club moved one step further to being able to start work on our new stadium, which will serve as the permanent home for our club here in East Dulwich. We can happily report that, through the signing of a Section 106 Agreement, the stadium owners, the club and Southwark Council have all agreed to proceed with the proposals, and this decision has also been ratified by the Greater London Authority (GLA) and the Mayor’s office. This marks the end of an 18-month process since the club’s application was first approved – an application that commits all parties to ensuring they deliver a stadium and a residential development.

The Trust has worked closely with club Chairman, Ben Clasper, to ensure the voice of our fans has been heard throughout – and we continue to act as a conduit for fans’ views as these plans progress. We know how slow the process has been, and how confusing it is for those of us not steeped in planning law, and as a Trust we are looking to get as much information as possible out to fans to keep them fully briefed as this progresses. With such high attendances and such phenomenal support, for both our men’s and women’s teams, it is great timing to know that the planned developments are that much closer, and that we will be able to offer an even better match going experience in the years ahead once the new stadium is up and running.

As a Trust we are only too aware that some of the facilities at our club need constant work and attention, and that we are unable to offer some of the things we want for both our fans and also for players and staff. Progressing with the new stadium brings much needed stability which will enable us to continue to grow as a Club.

The Supporters’ Trust Board are also pleased to announce that we have, this week, invested another £35,000 into the football club which will see us increasing our current shareholding from our current position of just under 30%. Given the recent news, regarding the new stadium, we felt that the timing was right for us to show our full commitment in helping to secure long term future for the Club and to give a stronger voice to supporters.

The agreement to proceed with the new stadium is, of course, not the end of the story but it is a significant milestone reached and it brings us that much closer to realising our ambitions. Whilst we are still a little away from the day we can start work, and even further from the final move, we continue to focus on what we can offer to fans at our current home. Our ground does need a lot of work, and much of this work is done by our army of volunteers who go above and beyond every week.

To get this whole project over the line we need fans to not just help out whenever they can today, but also, crucially, support the work of the Trust and club during these critical next stages of the process."

Because a lot are just there for the social side i.e. drinking, talking and meeting with friends not forgetting the posing side of it with their designer gear.

Yes but why go to a football club to socialise and not a pub/bar/cafe? There can’t be any/many other clubs who have 75% of their support supposedly not that interested in the match. Of course we’d love 2-3,000 fans at Arbour Park and I guess the vast majority wouldn’t care if they acted the same but paid their money! Just a very odd occurrence.

I can only put it down to the football club being a meeting place and doing their bit for their home town club.

Not many chances in the game for either side. probably the fair result but always stings when equaliser comes so late.

Unreal noise by the travelling fans all game but especially the chants at 1-1 which went on until 15 mins after the game. Glad the managers went over to the chanting fans as it really was a showing by the fans that we are right behind them and the team and appreciate the efforts of this season punching above our weight really in terms of factors off the field financially etc.

Will never get used to the stares of amazement from majority of the Dulwich fans when our fans make noise at their place. Great club though with a feel good buzz about the place. Absolutely no hostility from the home fans either although majority don't seem to care about the result enough to resort to anything close to your typical rival fan antics.

Shame we couldn't hold on but any away point is valuable in this league with so little between so many teams game to game. Keeps the season alive for now and who realistically could have thought playoffs was a possibility early doors in the season. Personally I would have been pretty happy with just surviving after the covid repercussions of last season.

While Dulwich has some fabulous good points that we can look at it also has some bad points. There were times on Saturday when the constant chatter of fans was louder than the singing at the game. Not sure how much a beer was but it it was £2 for a CAN of soft drink and the Greek gyros were £7.45 so not cheap. Guess if you look at London beer prices, if going to Dulwich is cheaper than a bar or restaurant then it could explain the crowd, can’t see many hipsters going to a Wetherspoon ?
