SLOUGH TOWN v MAIDSTONE UNITED - one month to go

Shredding Green

Whetted the appetite for the Slough v Maidstone game,SG !

What colour is Maidstone's away strip? Imagine Slough playing them, both in their home kits ! That would be hilarious for us older folk that need glasses.?

That amused me, when the Maidstone's number 11 played up to the crowd, and was waving off Harvey Bradbury, Oxfords sent off player.

The second one is 5 minutes 59 seconds into this match highlights video. On second viewing, it would appear that no one was sent off because it was a confrontation involving pushing and shoving by up to sixteen players. Happy viewing, RR!!!

Shredding, that's a different match video to the one on the Maidstone site which doesn't show the second melee.

It does seem that the mighty Maidstone have made some very important signings this season which probably explains why they are now title contenders rather than their usual flattering to deceive.

Michael Philips, Regan Booty and ex football league player Binnom-Williams to name just a few.

Maidstone have just confirmed they have sold out their 750 allocation to Dorking on Saturday, if they win that their support will just keep ramping up, so if we can rally the troops a bit then we could get a big crowd as SG suggests.

Have to say we need to start getting people back into the ground on a more regular basis, crowds of 505 are not going to keep us at this level.

Although today's results were not ideal, both Maidstone United and Slough Town played very well in their evenly contested matches.

The attendances were Arbour Park 657 and Meadowbank 2,898.

There would have been more Havant & Waterlooville fans if Portsmouth had not been at home before 15,224 at Fratton Park. Portsmouth dominated the match against Fleetwwod Town with 74% possession, 23 shots on goal to 5 and 8 corners to 2 but still managed to go 0-3 down on 41 minutes before equalising for a 3-3 draw on 90+5.

Dorking Wanderers lost the influential Matt Briggs with an anterior cruciate ligament injury so he will miss Dartford away next Saturday and most if not all of the rest of the season. H
e appeared to suffer a knee injury as he collided with the fencing behind the goal.

There are still matches to be played before Saturday 12th March which could affect the NLS table but on that day, there could be quite a few casual spectators looking for a match and choosing Slough Town v Maidstone United as the main local competition is Brentford v Burnley and Wycombe Wanderers v Rotherham United.

Fulham : Barnsley (A); Hayes & Yeading United : Taunton Town (A); Maidenhead United : Woking (A); Reading : Nottingham Forest (A);
Tottenham Hotspur : Manchester United (A)

Playing Sunday : Arsenal, Chelsea, Queens Park Rangers, Watford and West Ham United.

So continue to pass the word around that Arbour Park is the place to be on Saturday 12th March.

Excellent comeback from the mighty Maidstone today.

Looking dead and buried at 2-0 down at home to Hungerford they came back to win 3-2 and are now only 3 points behind leaders Dorking with a game in hand.

2,222 were at James Whatman Way to absorb all the excitement.

The biggest match of the season coming up at Arbour Park next Saturday but no mention of ticket sales yet. I am astonished by this and hope that an explanation is soon given.

I have noticed from occasional posts that some forum members have been able to access online information before others. This might be due to different internet service providers. 11.16 on Sunday morning and on my computer there is no trace of ticket sales yet on either clubs website nor if I enter "Slough Town v Maidstone United tickets" in my browser. But no doubt they will appear some time today ... and I won't be surprised if websites crash with the demand!!!?

Looking on Twitter some Hungerford players said they got spat at and hit by Maidstone fans.

Let's admit it, these foul-mannered people are everywhere in society. It is up to individual clubs to ask them to behave properly or weed them out of their support.

It should be the biggest match crowd wise if Maidstone bring the hoards of supporters you predict Shredding.

They certainly have no respect for other people or the club they supposedly support and should be weeded out and then given the boot.

Certain clubs seem to continually have problems with this element of their support so not sure those clubs do their best to rid themselves of this scourge.

Possibly mainly down to the loss of revenue they would suffer in order to fund their expensive players/promotion aspirations as to why nothing seems to get done.

Shredding Green, just for your information, we don’t normally release tickets for a Saturday game until the Sunday before as it gives us time to look at special offers or any other issues such as segregation. If we had released tickets for Maidstone, say Wednesday, and then a decision was made to segregate, then people would have complained about early release.  Sometimes you just have to chill out and relax ?

You'll have to forgive Shredding, he's getting very excited about Saturday's game with the mighty Maidstone  ?

I think this is bordering on obsessive now!!! So what side you supporting in the biggest match of the century?

Last Saturday's match before 2,222 at James Whatman Way might have been the Maidstone United match of the century. Have a look at these highlights :-

Hardly the match of the century but nevertheless some interesting points to learn from the highlights.

Maidstone look vulnerable from set pieces with a keeper that likes a fumble.

Maidstone's 1st goal was never a penalty and was instead handball by Jack Barham.

Most of Maidstone's good approach play comes from out wide.

Maidstone were losing 2-1 when Hungerford had a player sent off in the second half.

So in a nutshell I'd say Maidstone were a tad lucky to get the win.
