Hungerford 05/02/2022

Well, thank goodness for the 5 minutes between 75 and 80!!!!

Thought we weren't great again today, much in the vain of last week. Didn't really test the Hungerford keeper (apart from 1 effort in the first half) but also, North didn't really have much to do either.

I thought Hungerford were also pretty rank average and both of their goals had a big slice of luck in them. The first a deflection going straight to their forward (could have gone anywhere) and possible offside (looked it but would need to see it back) and the second a miss timed header from Togwell that hit the players back and bounced to the forward who then got a deflection off of Grant to put it in!!! How is your luck!!!!

Then again, a spilled shot from Jackman pounced on by Tenconi and more than a touch of offside on the equaliser and probably, much like last week, a draw was a fair result.

I am a bit confused today as to why our players don't talk / give a shout of a name on a ball. 3 times in the first half (Worsfield and Grant, Worsfield and Hunt and Harris and Nisbett) we had 2 players jumping with each other to win a header?‍.

In the end another point on the board but I suspect a much improved performance is needed soon as we are certainly in poor form at the moment. Hopefully the momentum of grabbing the 2 goals back will help give a boost for Tuesday and a very tough run of games to come.

Not a vintage performance today but have to be pleased to come back from 2 nil down. Imran Kayani made a real difference with his energy and hopefully he will kick on from this now.
Missed Lenchy today and the non league Pirlo - Scott Davies even more so, who really dictates the way we play these days.

For 75 minutes we were toothless with the Hungerford keeper hardly having a shot to save.

Both the Hungerford goals were streaky bits of luck but for large parts of the game they were the better side and deserved to be ahead.

The game changed when we had our own bit of luck when a shot, I think from Josh Jackman, went through a ruck of players with Alfonso the quickest to react when the ball bounced out of the keepers hands.

Not sure how the equalizer came about but young Imran Kayani certainly showed the coolness required to slot the ball home when the chance fell to him.

Tough game Tuesday and to quote Unders 'improvement is required'.

Ryan Seager had scored 19 National League South goals in 23 matches this season before yesterday's match.

He was on the pitch for the whole of the match.

It was his 26th birthday and I am sure that he would have liked nothing more than to have scored his 20th league goal of the season.

But there is no mention of him on ths forum or in the match report on the Slough Town website. Rebels must have done something right!!! What I found disappointing about their performance was the number of balls of the wrong length or weight. Hungerford Town were very quick to the ball for the first 70 minutes of the match and to me they looked a very good side.

Ryan Seager has just one mention in the match report on the Hungerford Town website, "Rhys Tyler had the best chance to double Hungerford’s lead when
Ryan Seager played him in down the right but Jonathan North produced a good save and it remained a single goal Hungerford lead going into the break
."

You know what to expect from Hungerford, a well drilled team. They were significantly better away from home until recently also. Thought they were lucky to claim a point at their ground against us, so the boot's on the other foot this time! They seem to have invested their lock down windfall from the National League wisely.

I was impressed how many away supporters travelled to the game. Normally we would expect only a handful from them.

As for Ryan Seager, maybe Acheampong has taken some of his glory and his chances!

With Acheampong now in the Hungerford side I'm sure they will continue to use the long ball to even greater effect which I'm not sure suits Ryan Seager's game.

Still, apart from that I'm sure we wouldn't mind him in our side if we could afford him.

BTW how much is Acheampong costing?

As Bernie said they are certainly benefitting from the Covid windfall that came their way.
