I moaned on this forum when Bakes and Unders first pushed Matthew Lench out the door, as at that time I thought he was the best player we had at the club. I didn't agree with their reasons at the time.   Just like me, Cookham Rebel, you've had replies to your posts, where some fan or other has taken umbridge with what  has been said, and have commented on them being negative. I'm in agreement with Slough Flyer here in that the forum needs differing opinions to make this forum a good place to debate and discuss subjects pertaining to Slough Town Football Club and non-league football in general, as long as fans don't become personal, abusive or uncivil to each other.

Where I do agree with you, Cookham Rebel, and don't agree with Slough Flyer, is in this storm in a teacup about the wording Guy Hollis chose when he was interviewed at Havant and Waterlooville. I watched the full interview and was impressed by how Guy Hollis came across. What human being doesn't use poorly chosen words at times? We all do it !

Like our managers, I would have tried to talk Guy Hollis out of this move but looking at it from Guy's angle - he isn't getting any younger,he's obviously been offered a better deal than Slough Town FC can pay him, and starting afresh at a new club with big promotion ambitions and playing under a different manager who has head hunted him and clearly wants him, was just too bigger pull for Guy. What I believe the Slough fans should be focussing on, is the years of dedicated service he has given to our managers and to our club. He has always been a favourite player of mine, I even sponsored him in the Slough programme one year at our club [when I was flusher], so to me I'm sad to see him leave but I accept his wishes.

As we all know, the grass isn't always greener on the other side but change can be invigorating and good for the soul, so I believe we should wish Guy Hollis all the best with his endeavours, and hope that one day he may come back and play again for Slough Town FC, like Matt Lench and Scott Davies have done. Loyal servants to one club are a rare breed these days which is a pity but while losing Guy is a big blow to Slough aspirations of staying in this division I don't see it as a 'mountain that is unsurmountable'.

A strong right footed astute centre half replacement for Guy shouldn't be that hard to come by, for a club like Slough but whether the club can find one for the same wages Guy got may be harder [ I don't know I'm guessing]. I know of two good centre halves playing in a league below who would do a good job but I expect Bakes and Unders know loads,so I'm looking forward to see who they bring in.

From what's been said it seems the main reason for Guy leaving is that his 'circumstances' have changed.

I might be wrong but it seems to have little to do wanting to start afresh at a new club, or wanting to play for a club with big promotion ambitions under a different manager who head hunted him.

Again I might be wrong but I'm sure Guy would still be with us if his personal circumstance hadn't changed.

Personally I'm not fussed if they are left or right footed as long as whoever comes in is a good replacement for Guy.

Hi Everyone,

Firstly, I want to say my thoughts and prayers go out to Christian Rowe, his family and his friends. I haven’t said my goodbye’s yet out of respect. It is not about me at this time and some things are far more important than football, departures. Slough lost a great player with huge potential who I played alongside only a matter of weeks ago and I hope I have not taken anything away from the respects that he deserves.

It was with a heavy heart that I made the decision to leave Slough after nearly 9 seasons at the club. A few hundred appearances, two promotions, lots of yellows, a few reds, a handful of goals and a million long throws, it has been some journey that’s for sure and one that has defined most of my football career - 9 years I am so grateful for. It was a decision that was not easy and one that wasn’t ever on the radar, but it was one I had to take.  I fully expected to be shown the door at Slough in another couple of years when my legs eventually pack up and I couldn’t continue on anymore at this level.

I have met some amazing people along the way, team mates and many of the fans and volunteers and have loved chatting after games in the clubhouse having a beer or two after. I have received some lovely messages and I am thankful for all the kind parting words I have received, I am very grateful. Some of the memories I have of my time at Slough are ones that will live with me forever, Kettering, Kings Lynn and the FA Cup runs to name a few. Slough has been like a family to me and have supported me during the most difficult of times I have faced with the passing of my Mum back in 2016 and I will forever be grateful for how I received such great support throughout my 9 years with the club, everyone is so welcoming and friendly, and I wish everyone well.

I just want to address the ‘comment’ made on the interview that has ruffled a few feathers - I would never disrespect Slough Town in any way. My comments in the moment were not in anyway to be disrespectful or a dig, it is simply as a player making reference to teams that have bigger budgets in the league and is something as players we are all aware of, it wasn’t in refernece to the clubs history or the size of the club in previous years and so on. I hope that can clear up that topic and draw a line under that.

I will always keep an eye out on the Slough results and I hope the club continue up the table this season.

I’m hoping I can get to a game in midweek or when we return to play against Slough in the league, that I get a chance to say goodbye properly to you.

Thank you to everyone that has supported me, the fans especially the people behind the scenes too, the volunteers that make the club tick and to the managers, coaches, physios and players.

Good luck and I hope to see you all again soon.

Guy - a far more considered and excellent way to say goodbye?.

Hopefully things go well at Havant for you and the injury clears up quickly.

The only advice I would give if I may (looking at the signing picture on twitter), I'd have a look at the contract as it doesn't seem to have much substance to it????

Hopefully for Guy that was a contract and not just a registration form.

Guy, my biggest upset with you leaving us now is that we had just made up a song for your long throws and it will make taking the piss out if harry hill in April a little pointless.

Having said all of that, thank you for being such a committed servant to this club over the last 9 years, it’s been a pleasure and I’m sure, once you’re fit again, you will make your mark at Havant.

Best of luck to you, except when you’re playing Slough!!!!!
