It’s funny because I don’t remember Lench leaving 3 times cause as much debate or negativity and it shouldn’t either, everyone is entitled to move on in any walk of life

I’d welcome Guy back with open arms in pre-season if his personal circumstances allow

CR, I think the main difference, if you forget about Guy's poorly chosen words in his interview, is that Matt Lench moved to a club in a higher division which most supporters accept as progression.

Players can do what they want in their playing career but supporters are also entitled to have their say/view positive or negative when a player leaves.

Lench only moved to a higher level club the 3rd time he left.

Yes all supporters are entitled to their opinion but when a manager comes on here and defends the player and tells us how it is we should all accept it and realise there should be no negativity.

CR - you do realise that the point of the forum is for anyone and everyone to offer their opinions on the situations relating to Slough Town right?

Just because Neil and or Jon have 1 opinion, it doesn't make it more or less worthwhile than anyone else's.

You clearly have no issue with what Guy said, to be honest, it isn't really a big deal either way, poorly chosen words from him at best, at worst a dig for no reason (I suspect it was the first one). Regardless my opinion is it was poorly dealt with on his part and not what should have been said, your opinion is what he said was fine and no issue. Either one is fine to have, thats kind of the point and rarely will there be a 100% agreement, and even then, doesn't make it right.

As for Lench, the 2 situations are very, very different and were dealt with by the player very differently on both occasions. I think after he left the first time, in the way he left, he was very lucky Neil and Jon gave him a 2nd chance (I suspect he also realised this as he had a very different attitude the 2nd time). When he left the 2nd time, that was for a team higher up, during the pandemic and in a season that didn't count for anything.

2 very different circumstances and should be treated as such.

Yes I do realise that is the point of a forum, shame you weren’t on here years ago when I was basically rail roaded off this forum for years for having an opinion different to the mafia!

in this instance, Bakes hasn’t expressed an opinion, he’s told us the facts without going into detail.

Good luck to Guy at H&W.

I am sure that Reading Rebel will miss the long throw-ins though.

I think we will miss Guys throws as a team RV. Having said that, unless I'm wrong (which has never happened before so I'm not sure how it feels?) both Scott Davies and Lee Togwell have very good long throws as well. Perhaps that method of attack won't go completely out of our game.

100% CR, the point was you said from Neil's post that should mean there is no negativity. IMO, thats Neil doing a great job of giving the facts (as always). Doesn't change what Guy said, although might give more of an insight into why/how he might have "not" meant it the way it came out.

As for being railroaded off the forum, screw them and whomever they were. Don't let anyone say otherwise of stop you posting mate.

Funny how things change.

In the infamous game Doswell was outraged that Guy was continually wasting time wiping the ball dry and taking a long throw.

I'm sure he will now be wiping the ball for him and applauding his time wasting and long throw.

It'll certainly please some supporters who thought we relied too heavily on the same long throw but of course were applauding it when we recently scored two goals from it. ?

Exactly.

I'm pretty certain when Lenchy initially left us he had no say in the matter.

Guy made 276 appearances for our club, which puts him in the top 20 of all time.

He has played a major part in our two promotions & deserves a lot of thanks & respect for the service & entertainment he has provided us.

Thanks Guy, I wish you all the best in the future & a speedy recovery from the injury.

I think every supporter will agree that Guy deserves and has been given all the plaudits for the level of service he's given to the club.

I moaned on this forum when Bakes and Unders first pushed Matthew Lench out the door, as at that time I thought he was the best player we had at the club. I didn't agree with their reasons at the time.   Just like me, Cookham Rebel, you've had replies to your posts, where some fan or other has taken umbridge with what  has been said, and have commented on them being negative. I'm in agreement with Slough Flyer here in that the forum needs differing opinions to make this forum a good place to debate and discuss subjects pertaining to Slough Town Football Club and non-league football in general, as long as fans don't become personal, abusive or uncivil to each other.

Where I do agree with you, Cookham Rebel, and don't agree with Slough Flyer, is in this storm in a teacup about the wording Guy Hollis chose when he was interviewed at Havant and Waterlooville. I watched the full interview and was impressed by how Guy Hollis came across. What human being doesn't use poorly chosen words at times? We all do it !

Like our managers, I would have tried to talk Guy Hollis out of this move but looking at it from Guy's angle - he isn't getting any younger,he's obviously been offered a better deal than Slough Town FC can pay him, and starting afresh at a new club with big promotion ambitions and playing under a different manager who has head hunted him and clearly wants him, was just too bigger pull for Guy. What I believe the Slough fans should be focussing on, is the years of dedicated service he has given to our managers and to our club. He has always been a favourite player of mine, I even sponsored him in the Slough programme one year at our club [when I was flusher], so to me I'm sad to see him leave but I accept his wishes.

As we all know, the grass isn't always greener on the other side but change can be invigorating and good for the soul, so I believe we should wish Guy Hollis all the best with his endeavours, and hope that one day he may come back and play again for Slough Town FC, like Matt Lench and Scott Davies have done. Loyal servants to one club are a rare breed these days which is a pity but while losing Guy is a big blow to Slough aspirations of staying in this division I don't see it as a 'mountain that is unsurmountable'.

A strong right footed astute centre half replacement for Guy shouldn't be that hard to come by, for a club like Slough but whether the club can find one for the same wages Guy got may be harder [ I don't know I'm guessing]. I know of two good centre halves playing in a league below who would do a good job but I expect Bakes and Unders know loads,so I'm looking forward to see who they bring in.
