Guy Hollis

As per the website, a massive loss after 11 amazing years. Gutted to see him go.

Another senior player leaving / absent now and that leaves us with Nisbet (who has struggled against very sub-par opposition in the 2 games to get fitness that we have seen him in) and Togwell who isn't a centreback (even though has performed fairly well filling in since Ryan Birds injury).

With the struggles this season defensively (3 league clean sheets and 4 in total), I hope Neil and Jon have a solution including a couple of new centrebacks because even with Guy we have struggled, without him, we might just be in trouble!!!!!!

Just listened to Guys comments of "finally testing himself and playing for a big club in the league". Pretty scummy comment to make having been "fully committed to Slough" a few months ago.

Don't ever blame a footballer for going after the money as its a short career and some extra cash at the moment I'm sure would help any player, not sure why he needed to comment that though?

Perhaps karma has paid for the comments though as he has been substituted after 22 minutes with a knee injury.

Oh come on for gods sake! I’m disappointed Guy’s gone but football evolves… All players make comments like that when joining a new club, don’t take it so personally…

Good luck Guy!

Disagree.

All players don't make comments like that when they join a new club and disappointed that Guy has chosen to make such comments.

Ok, in Guy's defence he has given us fantastic service over the time that he's been with us but I have to say I'm disappointed on two levels that he's left.

One is that he's joined a rival club at the same level as us and who are at this moment only 3 points above us.

Two, it does seem heavily weighted on 'an offer I couldn't refuse' i.e. the money.

The only thing I will say is we don't know Guy's situation, perhaps he's in desperate need of the money.

To be honest I think Guy has just used the wrong words, as most players and management would class Havant as one of the bigger clubs in the league, mainly due to resources, however I can tell you Guy is a great lad, and only a change in his circumstances have resulted in him leaving.

Clearly I am not going into the ins and outs, however we both totally understand the decision and it was made with a heavy heart, and I can assure you he has not meant to disrespect the club in any way.

In terms of have we got something lined up, well I will be honest we have been hit for 6, Guy going, meant we had planned on bringing Christian back into the fold, he was one that I watched twice over Christmas and I saw enough to feel comfortable in him coming in and doing well with us, however obviously tragedy has hit, and that is no longer an option.

We are also in a situation whereby I am currently caring for my father full time in Norfolk until he passes which is imminent, and Unders wife gave birth yesterday to their second child, however even with all this going on we have managed to speak with a centre half who we will hear from next week on if he would like to join.

Outside of that we do not have anything else lined up, as this has all happened so quickly, and in all honesty losing Christian has left us very flat.

Obviously it is our job to try and get what we can out of our lads that we do have, and work on other options, but don’t expect miracles immediately.

Thanks for you honest reply Bakes and really sorry to hear about your father.

What would you have him say???

Anyway, he’s gone and if a player joining my club didn’t express his joy in some form of words I’d be worried, it’s not about Slough and I highly doubt Guy meant any harm.

After all, it’s only a game of football and I think perspective needs to be applied especially with the tragic news the club broke on Friday. Using perspective, who cares what Guy said!!

Agree. I can't understand these negative comments about Guy Hollis. To me he's been among the best players ever signed by Bakes and Unders and has been a good servant to Slough over the years. I for one wish him the best of luck at Havant and Waterlooville FC. I can totally see why Paul Doswell would want to sign him. He's never let Slough down, so why fans feel aggrieved by some throw away comment that is as believable as some charlatan kissing a club's badge is beyond me.

I'm more worried about how we will replace him.

The H&W match report says Hollis did very well until injury forced him off The man who replaced him scored their goal so probably a good day for them.

Havant Town and Waterlooville were two smaller clubs than Slough Town that merged to form a club not that much bigger than Slough Town.

I feel that if Guy had been writing his comments, instead of speaking them in an interview, he would have corrected his wording before finalising what he had written.

And to put it in perspective, so far this season Havant & Waterlooville 1 Slough Town 2 in the league and Slough Town 1 Havant & Waterlooville 0 in the FA Trophy.

There might be a chant or two to sing on Saturday 26th February!

I think it's pretty clear Shredding that size of club has very little to do with Guy moving to Havant.

Also going by the first analysis of his injury Guy will not be playing against us in our home league game in Feb.
