v Chippenham

A first half where we went a goal down, we then equalized from a good strike from Alfonso and then proceeded to give the game away with some really poor defending to end the half 4-1 down.

I can only assume that some deserved home truths were dished out at half time because we came out second half and showed some of the grit and determination that was missing from the first half.

We started creating some chances and were eventually awarded a penalty and with Aaron Kuhl having been substituted Ben Harris stepped up only to hit his strike straight at the keeper to keep the score at 4-1.

Following the penalty miss Ben Harris duly got himself sent off for retaliation after a Chippenham player allegedly spat at him.

This was now game over and we eventually ended up on the end of a humiliating 6-1 drubbing.

It was a day for rolling your sleeves up, getting stuck in and showing some tenacity and fight, unfortunately, mainly for the first half, we were second best by far in that department.

RR, was Aaron Kuhl's substitution tactical or did he go off injured?

Was our defending so bad?  Or was it that Chippenham were so very good up front and played us off the park?

On Aaron Kuhl, I'm not sure if he was injured or subbed tactically.  Personally I didn't see him get injured.

As far as I'm concerned Chippenham scored one good goal and the other 3 in the first half were due to us not defending properly.

Just watched Unders candid interview, and appreciate his run through on how the goals went in and his thoughts on the game. Sounds like the proverbial ' bad day at the office'. Maybe our team were more complacent than bad,as going by Unders comments it doesn't seem as if it was a complete whitewash for Chippenham.

As much as this game has gone against Slough,it may be the wake up call that our team needs, going into for next weeks big FA Trophy match. If Bakes and Unders can get the squad pulling in the same direction in their training sessions with the players this week, and have our team fired up for Saturday, regardless of today's result, I can still see a good chance of Slough causing an upset against York City.

Just to reiterate, I don't think it was necessarily just down to our defense being poor.

I think our midfield has also got to take some responsibility.

Some of the goals were down to the oppo players carving their way unchallenged through our midfield to get at our defense.

Alf D'Arcy and Roger Day could have given Ben Harris good advice about how to respond to being spat at without getting yourself sent off.

Agree KGB.

I know it can often be a spur of the moment reaction to retaliate when something like that happens but the smarter players with a bit of self control like Alf D'Arcy and Roger Day would have sought retribution in other ways.

I'm sure the player spitting was laughing his socks off that his despicable action got a player sent off.

A bit of irony there SD that a game just down the road for you and your not in attendance.

Kevin Ratty Slough vs St Albans at the dolphin I think It went to court

Billy Ratty. There is a (partial) account of that incident packed FA Amateur cup tie in the book "Favourite Year" My recollection is that Roger Day was acquitted after a private prosecution but one would have to consult contemporary sources to get it right.

I thought this happened in B@B Cup Fìnal.

20220109_123528.jpg

It was the 2nd round of the Amateur cup against St Albans in the 1971/72 season.

Here's a piece of an article about it:

City’s FA Cup campaign ended abruptly with a 3-0 Preliminary Round defeat at Romford and our Amateur Cup run again failed to get past the Second Round. Harwich & Parkeston, on the back of a spectacular display by goalkeeper and future manager Tony Armstrong, held out for a draw on the Essex coast but went down 4-0 at the Park with Dave finally ending their resistance with a glorious strike from fully 35 yards. But the run ended amid controversy and in a blood bath at Slough Town’s Dolphin Stadium. Fewer than 20 minutes had passed when Neville, who scored the first City goal, was kicked and Bill Ratty ran across to help his team mate only to be given a broken jaw in a clash with Slough captain Roger Day. The Athenian League club secured a 3-2 victory with a highly disputed penalty four minutes from time. Hendon ended City’s reign as London Senior Cup holders but Neville did step forward to collect the Mithras Cup and Herts Charity Cup.
