Yes, Thornby very close to the goal line is the scorer. A fair bit of movement between him and I think it was the Slough No 8 by the post. Add the camera angle and the goal is definitely either offside or ever so close to being offside. I wonder how in line with play the linesman (I think that's what they called him in 1998) was!

The player who scores the goal has one foot virtually on the goal line when the player shoots so is the last man so must be offside.

Oh for VAR ?

Because Smart and Hercules are behind Wilkerson, I think Smart becomes the goalkeeper and Hercules is playing the goalscorer onside when the ball hits the player on the line... I believe those were the rules at the time!

Did anyone see Leeds 4th goal which was ruled out against West Ham at the weekend? Hit Rodrygo on the line and was ruled out for offside. Very similar to that Southport goal.
