View from the Boundary
A very welcome 3 points for Jets against an impressive Broadfields in a full bloodied and entertaining encounter, 3-2. The visitors nearly went ahead early on but for an excellent Lewis Todd save, but goals from, who else, Kyal Williams and right back Kenny Nobrega put the home side in control, only to be pegged back midway through the half. A nailed on penalty was dispatched by Theo Costa for his first for the club with an injured Lewis Putman watching on, and after 27 minutes that was the last Jets bothered the scorekeeper. What little paint was left on the dressing room walls was removed from another Kevin Christou hairdryer at half time, and you'd imagine the walls would have melted had they conceded in the remaining two minutes left after the Fighting Cocks did pull it back to 3-2, but Jets held on. Three tough games to come pre-Christmas, away at Royston in the Herts Cup Tuesday, Risborough away next week then on form local rivals Harefield on 21st and the return of another old boy in Louis Bircham, who seems to be scoring for fun this year. Rhodes
10 minutes ago, Rhodes said: Division Two Totternhoe 1 Eynesbury United 2 Eynesbury United's match report: Spartan South Midlands League Div 2 Totternhoe (1) 1 Eynesbury United (1) 2 Sam Piesse first goal of the season was enough to give United three valuable points at a soggy Totternhoe. On a miserable afternoon it was great credit to the hosts for providing a pitch fit for football however at the end of 90 minutes it resembled a swamp after continuous rain throughout the game. After last weeks 2-0 win at home, United knew that this was going to be a tough assignment, and so it proved against a good Totternhoe team. The hosts started the brightest but failed to break down the United back line, and after good work from Sole, Shane Fox found himself racing clear but the home keeper smothered the effort. The first half was a dour affair with little or no real chances, until finally Totternhoe broke through the United back four, a few chances to clear the ball were spurned and a smart finish saw United one down. United we’re definitely going through the motions and they needed a spark. This came on 44 minutes when Fox was fouled on the edge of the hosts penalty area. Up stepped Owen Dixon who this season has been a bit of a wizard from free kicks. Dixon sent the free kick over the wall and into the top corner, huge goal in the context of the game, United went in level and in a more buoyant mood to what it could have been. The second half was a totally different affair with United coming out with a spring in their step after the late equaliser in the first half. Fox and Baxter started to give the Totternhoe defenders something to think about. Fox was replaced by Jennings and with nearly his first touch he had a good chance but shot wide. Baxter had the next meaningful effort but his shot was tipped over. Finally on 69 minutes the pressure told when indecision in the Totts defence saw Jennings thread a ball through to Piesse who slipped it past the keeper. United now in front and It was now a matter of game management with the pitch getting worse with every passing minute. And United did just that with Jeckells untroubled in the visitors goal. United saw it through and claimed three vital points that sees them very much in the mix at the top of the table. Man of the match was Sam Piesse, great all round performance and the winning goal.
