Reading Rebel
Excellent news that Alfonso has committed to the rebels for the remainder of the season. Also good news that Ada is returning from the USA at the end of the month.
GlenSTFC
It is but also gutting we’ll lose him after that! He had the potential to become a decent player and go higher but you can’t blame him for wanting to progress his education at one of the best universities in the world. I’m guessing with Ada coming back, any urge for a new striker (and defender) has been severely diluted? Shame as I really think a couple of new players who are better than what we have plus hopefully would have experience at this level could really propel us even higher and continue the momentum and keep everyone on their toes. Neil Baker
Glen to be fair our last 8 games have been 6 wins a draw (last minute equaliser) and one defeat (taking out Berks and Bucks), I think the squad is coping quite well at the moment, and we have lots coming through the 23s also. Ebbsfleet for example probably have 4/5 times what we have financially, have a senior squad of 24 players, yet have still lost three on the bounce. We are not going to bring in players unless we have to, and we still have a budget to work too. When we were talking about a centre half and forward, it was before Alfonso came in and hit the ground running, and it was also at a time where we did not think we were going to have Guy for the rest of the season, and we were waiting to see how Togs did there (and he has been an absolute stand out). That is not to say that we are not keeping an eye on what is out there, and in fact have a behind closed doors friendly set up tomorrow which will enable us to look at a few more of the youngsters and a player who has just moved to the UK from New Zealand. sdelaney
Glen have you been to any of our games recently the young lads are doing themselves managers teammates and club great credit. They are working hard and learning all time in a tough league. As we have found out this season it doesn't work all the time with experienced players as my mates around me will tell you watching Tom Derry done my head in just like Colin Fielder did to us all years ago. But at all other clubs he played for he could was a star.
GlenSTFC
No I’ve not been to many games recently and of course the squad are performing well which is reflected in our recent form. As there had been no specific update I was just curious if we were still actively looking for new players and I guess we are but not urgently. It’s often mentioned we have a small squad and as we now have some money to sign players (only talking one or two) I just thought it’ll make sense. I quite like that we have the under 23's coming through. The Academy 23 seem to be a really professionally organised unit and the link between us and them means we can both benefit. With Eitel, Joe, Gabe and Alfonso already with more coming through I think we could become similar to Reading back in the day when they had a constant supply from their youth team that all went on to play premier league football. There is one constant in that......Martin Kuhl who I think was at Reading at the time and involved. What I guess i am saying is our identity we are forming is much better than that of money spending ebbsfleet.
